BYU Guesses Right On 62 Track Meet By Bill Coltrin Tribune Sports Writer Credit PROVO Brigham Young University with a victory in the good guess division of the annual Invitational Meet, scheduled for next Thursday, Friday and Saturday. WHILE IT may be a shortlived triumph, at least the weather next Saturday, big day of the meet, probably wont be any worse than it was this Saturday. And the good guess comes in when it is recalled that for the past three years the meet was scheduled for the third week of April. WEATHER FOR the past three years has ranged from bad to terrible and this year the meet biggest athletic extravaganza of the year in the Intermountain West was put back a week to the fourth week of April. As of right now the BYU officials headed by meet chairman Edwin R. Kimball, look good with the weather in the bad division Saturday. NOW IF it turns up sunny next Saturday, the meet probably will be left for the last week of April for the next 50 years or so. And this is the 49th annual meet, so mentioning 50 years is not out of line. -- ENTRIES HAVE been pouring in from four states and there are all sorts of predictions that there will be a record number of participants. This means that something like 5,000 will be on hand to compete in something track and field, tennis, golf and precision marching. There were 4,519 on hand last year. AND THE competition runs through the junior high the senior high schools and then to the junior colleges with the first activity slattfd Thursday when junior high tennis will be played. Then, on Friday, therell be the junior high track and field, a gigantic affair in itself, along with the beginning rounds of the senior high school tennis in both Class A and Class B and the high school golf tournament slated at Provos Timpanogos course. FRED (BUCK) Dixon, BYU net coach will handle the tennis and Karl Tucker, Cougar golf coach, the divot npr-Jlo- n of the International. Saturdays the big day of course with the high school and junior college track and field, the junior college tennis along with the finals of the prep tennis, the high school girls precision marching teams and the finals of the All Around competition. THE ALL Around, for the most rugged kids only, was won last year by Jack Saunders of South Cache High School while David Hyatt of East Carbon was second and Wendell Smoot of East was third.
