Show OUR WINTER amusements IT Is of the greatest importance to the people of utah that their public amusements shall be conducted with the strictest propriety without wringing infringing upon proper freedom and hinder hindering I 1 ng trae true enjoyment recreation Is as necessary cv as aa food to the full health and well being of humanity if this Is not provided for the young they will seek it for themselves innocent fun tun Is one of the essentials 11 mormonism sees dusharm no harm in any amuse amusement mentin in which law is not violated and prudence Is not overstepped over stepped ani adi dancing the drama and other entertainments are encouraged rathor than forbidden among amon the lat ter day saints but it Is needful that all these amusements should be under proper regulations this Is particularly tue the case in reference to dancing parties therefore he the v views of tl the authorities ties of the church and instructions from the presidents of the stakes and bishops haye have been laid before the people different at times that the they may know mow what Is considered hanni uland and be induced to avoid it blound dancing 11 Is objected to for mary many any reasons to that we need not herere here repeat e a t as we have explained them many fi times mes and they are petty well weli understood among our own people andre and recognized by respectable folks in the world but there Is a greater probable evil in what are known among amon us as mixed dances that Is dancing parties to which all kinds of people are admitted on payment of the entrance fee the opportunities thus afforded for the designing and licentious need not be pointed out they must be obvious to all ali who have common perception that these may not mot be made use of brevil by evil eyll minded persons for their own base ends it I 1 has been thought wise not to haye hare any dancing parties in the wards for the purpose 1 di I raisin raising f funds the expenses of a ball can be e met with without ayt throwing ages wing it open to every one who chooses to pay for admission in con consequence s sequence of the advice given to make our dancing parties fi elect thero there are some persons who misrepresent the object in view to foment discord among our young people and to draw away the inexperienced into by and forbidden paths this was only to be expected people who advocate the whisky shop the gambling den and the house of ill lil fame faine as potent antl dotes to mormonism are sure to kick against the wholesome rest restraints faints interposed between our young folks and thoin their influence some of these people have boneso gone so far as to claim the right to participate in the dances arranged for in the district achrol houses on the ground that those hose buildings are public property it t should be understood that these schoolhouses ool houses honses are under the care and control atrol of the school trustees if they hoose choose to permit a ball to be given under di direction leall on of any responsible person or persons they have a perfect right to do sk and when the house la is thus rented it may be made just as exclusive as the person erson having temporary possession chooses boses to make it if if those who wish to force themselves where their presence Is not desired want to dance let them em apply for the schoolhouse and if the he trustees see fit to let them have 14 it go in and dance to their own tune in eln ein own way and not attempt to intrude where their room Is considered etter than their company the impertinence and pigheadedness f some persons who style themselves liberal is as amusing as itis amazing ve e ho hope cc nono of our country cousins hill ill be e browbeaten brow beaten into a wrong
