Bemick Tribune Business Editor Construction of a multimillion dollar oxygen plant serving Geneva Works has been proposed In the steel industry, it was reported Monday. Linde Division of Union Carbide Corp. said that it had . iWu. talked the proposal over with Steel officials. But the steel people said that they had not yet entertained any formal proposal from Linde or others in the oxygen business for the plant. However, more and more of the industry is moving toward increased use of oxygen in as it greatly reduces furnace time and corhikes annual ingot respondingly production. This, of course, has effect of reducing steel costs. Thus increased availability of oxygen at Geneva Works is at least an ultimate must observers said. Linde on Monday announced on national basis it projected expenditure of 50 million dollars in the 'construction or expansion of 16 oxygen plants most of them adjacent to facilities. ; . In its program, Linde builds and owns the plants and sells the oxygen to steel companies. of production are nitrogen and rare gases, such as argon which is finding increased use in electronics trade and the welding of new metals . such as titanium. Total U.S. mine output and scrap intake for March amounted to 117,161 tons of which 107,995 tons came from mines, a record, and 9,166 tons, from scrap. lost at least five million dollars April is because the Atomic Energy A pretrial hearing will be held Commission failed to go here June 15 in a with agreements to through suit filed against the buy uranium. . government by Wallace, Idaho, THE SUIT WAS filed last plaintiffs.
