The Pioneers were great dancers, bringing with them many of the original routines The from Europe. Rye Waltz and Virginia Reel were alwa; on the programs held in the social halls during the ISSOs. e. Sets in Order recorded the first round dance, for a Utah couple, Geneve and Tommy Thomas. The Thomases choreographed Rocky Mountain Twirl to the tune of Spring Time in the Rockies and taught it at the National Convention in San Diego. The contra began a comeback! With this comeback, the contra traditional gained strength, and as the modern contra is properly presented offers a distinctive characteristic music, variety of choreochalpossibilities, graphic lenge, and aave all beauty. A fine representation of the 22nd National Square Dance Convention. t Youth Extra Activity Offers Timpahogos Cave Outing The 22nd National Square Dance Convention is the Place to Be in 73. and the youth of the nation have registered in droves. Such outstanding groups as the Mavencks of Seattle, Wash., and the Lamar Dudes and Dames of Lamar, Color., along with many others will be doing their thing at exhibition time. These are shows that no one should miss. The youth will have their own dance hall (larger than past conventions) with shiny tile floors and the parents can attend if they think that they can keep up. There will be youth afterparties on Thursday and Fri day nights with callers especially for the youth. On Friday morning at 8:00 A.M. all of the young folk should slip away to go on the tour to Timpanogos Cave. This is a National Monument and is one of the most beautiful caves in all the nation. It is situated at an elevation of nearly 11.000 ft. in a setting of lovely mountain scenery with a view of the Utah Valley that is breathtaking. Take a good look while you are there because this is the area where Robert Redford filmed the show Jeremiah Johnson. The cost of the trip will be approximately each.
