Zippers are sew simple By Eunice Farmer DEAR EUNICE FARMER: I'm never sure whether to apply a lapped type zipper closing or center the zipper and stitch on each side of it. They will greet reception guests at the Allen residence groom that evening. Miss Allen has attended the University of Utah. She is a graduate of Career Culture fCenter. Her fiance is a graduate of Stout State University, fwhere he was affiliated with Sigma Tau Gamma. When I try the latter method, the teeth of the zipper usually show. Can this be avoided? RUTH S. DEAR RUTH: Most of the standard zipper applications look better with the lapped zipper method. This applies to a zipper at the back of a garment, skirt or pant zippers, etc. Today there are many zippers placed at the center front of the garment the center closing looks best here. First, close the seam with a large machine basting stitch. Press the seam open, place the center of your zipper directly under the seam bn the wTong side of garment. Baste zipper place on each side of seamline. Before stitching with the machine, overcast the seam from the right side by hand. As you do this hand sewing, puli up a little extra fabric as you overcast. Next, proceed with the machine stitching evenly cn each side of the seamline. You will find when you remove the overcasting as well as the machine basting, the extra fabric you basted in will keep the zipper from separating: BOYS' NAME REG. 7.00 2 BRAND SLACKS.
