Completion years away' 1-- 215 is B Faced with several alternatives on location of a section the belt route around Salt Lake City, Utah Departof ment of Highways officials agree construction is several years away. The section runs from where ends at 4500 South to about 6400 South where it would cut west and run to Ninth East. That proposed location has been the subject of many public meetings recently where highway personnel have presented that location and several alternates. . Sheldon McConkie, department route surveys and location engineer, outlined the reasons that construction of the belt route segement is several years away. Each alternative must be studied and the economic, social and environmental impacts assessed. A draft statement on those choices is then prepared and a public hearing held. More comments must be taken from the public, department responses and changes made and the statement completed for submission to the Federal Highway Administration. Here are the alternates being studied: A-- l, do nothing. the original plan which would include . interchanges at Ninth and 20th East and Knudsen's Comer. About 90 has been purchased, but the percent of the A-- needed is at 20th which is being opposed by area residents. Department officials beleive this route would provide the best service to the public. a reversible lane plan.
