Since he was in seventh grade, he has known what he wants to be a dentist. And he has already and started pulling teeth a feat replanting them which has earned him a great deal of recognition recently. Randy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel E. Lewis, Bountiful, is in the tenth grade at Bountiful High School. He has a medical vocabulary not easily understood by his classmates or even his parents and other adult friends. His father is a fund specialist at Hill Air Force Base and is not in the medical profession. As a control dog, Randy used a poodle named Mushie. Both dogs weigh about ten pounds. Randy anesthetized Nikki, extracted two canine teeth, performed a root canal on one and not on the other tooth Then he replanted both teeth into their own sockets. To hold them in place, he ligated with interdental wires. The surgery was performed two months ago. He observed both Nikki and Mushie closely, as any thorough research scientist would. In a month, the teeth were stabilized, there was no sign of discoloration, and the experiment appeared to prove successful. Through his sponsor, Dr. Max Harward, biology teacher at Bountiful High, Randy was with other invited, along Science Fair winners, to display his project at the annual spring meeting of the Utah Academy of Science, Arts and Letters at Utah State certificates from the Army and from the Air Force as the most outstanding student in medicine and health.
