Among the principal cities in Utah for which data are available, the greatest business activity gains were made 64 by Roosevelt, percent; Orem, 48 percent; Vernal, 37 percent, and American Fork, 34 percent. Salt Lake Citys increase was 11.8 percent, according to the Utah Foundation study. Gross sales as measured by local sales tax collections amounted to $948,338,000 in 'the city during 1972, eom- pared with $848,221,000 in the previous year. The study is based on an analysis of local option sales tax collections through February 1973. For the state as a whole. the volume of business activity totaled nearly $3.3 billion, an increase of 16.3 percent in pany's construction program has been a major factor in Emery Countys growth and the oil boom in the Uinta Basin has contributed a large share of the new business 1972, the Foundation reported.
