Show e Of iratioh Parental responsibility cannot go unheeded, nor can it be shifted to daytime centers, nor to the classroom, nor to the church. Family responsibility comes by divine decree. Parents may violate this decree only at the peril of their salvation. Elder A. Theodore T uttle Born March 2, 1919, in Manti, Utah. Sustained as member of First Council of Seventy April 6, 1958, at age 39. Moments In History 1831 The ProphFeb. 1, Kirtland, Ohio et Joseph Smith first met Newel K. Whitney in a very striking manner. The event is recorded in the Whitney family history as follows: About the first of February, 1831, a sleigh containing four persons drove through the streets of Kirtland and drew up in front of the store of Gilbert and Whitney. One of the men, a young stalwart personage alighted, and springing up the steps walked into the store and to where .the junior partner was standing. Newel K. Whitney Thou art the man! he exclaimed, extending his hand cordially, as if to an old and familiar acquaintance. You have the advantage of me, replied the merchant, as he mechanically took the proffered hand. 1 could not call you by name as you have me. I am Joseph the Prophet," said the stranger smiling. Youve prayed me here, now what do you want of me? The Prophet, it is said, while in the East had seen the Whitneys, in vision, praying for his coming to Kirtland. 1833 The annual Penny Parade, sponsored by the Primary Association, makes treatment possible for about 27 percent of the patients at Primary Childrens Hospital each year. It had been the intention of the Prophet to have this revised version of the scriptures, which he had made with such laborious care, published in Zion, at the printing establishment of the church. The New Testament and the Book of Mormon were to be published together. Before the work could be commenced, the persecution increased to a point that the project could not be accomplished. This unsettled condition continued through the rest of the Prophets life and he found no opportunity to publish the revised scriptures. 1925 Feb. 3, Salt Lake City, Utah The first Missionary Home of the church was dedicated by President Heber J. Grant. It was the policy of the church to bring missionaries, who were to represent the church, to Salt Lake City for orientation and training. While at the headquarters of the church the missionaries were set apart by a General Authority and went through the temple. A suitable place for the missionaries to stay seemed essential and was suggested by Bishop David A. Smith in 1924. With the approval of the General Authorities, a residence at 31 N. State St., near the Church Administration Building, was secured and furnished. The first group of missionaries arrived a few days after the dedication. Classes for their benefit were started and eventually the length of stay was increased to two weeks. Elder LeRoi C. Snow and his wife were responsible for the Missionary Home. Soon another house was acquired, adjacent to the first and the capacity was increased to 60 elders and 20 lady missionaries. 4 6 7 12 13 15 A SECTION Of THE DESERET NEWS PUBLISHED WEEKLY IN SALT LAKE CITY.
