Christians have celebrated Pentecost as Whitsunday (White Sunday), the seventh Sunday after Easter as a festiv al of the church because it was the day when baptized members wore their white baptismal garments. Another goal of the pastor is to be more aggressive in evangelistic outreach to develop more programming for young adults, 18 and up. We want them to become more active in the Christian faith. Rev. Silliman has adopted a goal of trying to go from the current membership of 270 members (115 families) to a goal of 500 members in five years. If we do, it may involve expansion of our church facility. Although baptism is usually done by sprinkling in the church. Rev. Silliman believes in baptism by immersion if desired by the individual member. For a person who was baptized as an infant, our church has a Confirmation class for junior high age which takes one year. We do baptize adults if they have never professed to be a Christian before, the pastor stated. While in Richfield, Rev. Silliman was elected to the City Council, and now he presently serves on the news advisory board of KTVX. He is a member of the Salt Lake Ministerial Association and the Evangelical Ministers Association. A significant portion of his time is spent in counseling, and he said most people come for counseling when it is too late . . . they have already made up their mind.
