Ambassador Jacob Malik, sources say ambassador Jacob A. Malik, to the United the Soviet Nations since 1968, is working in Moscow as a deputy foreign minister. A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said he did not know whether a new U N. delegate had been appointed. But diplomatic sources at U.N. headquar MOSCOW (AP) ters in New York said last week that Malik, 70, was being replaced by Oleg A. Troyanovsky, the Soviet ambassador to Japan. TYoyanovsky, 57, is the son of the first Soviet ambassador to Washington, and was Nikita S Khrushchevs interpreter during his visits to the United States. A Foreign Ministry official that Malik is not our represencon-finn- tative at the United Nations. Malik was injured in an automobile accident on Long Island last March and had been absent from the United Nations since July. W'estem sources said he had been under treatment for the injuries. The first official word of his return was a report by Tass, the official Soviet news agency, that Malik, deputy minister of foreign affairs of the U.S.S.R., received the new ambassadors from Cameroon and Sierre Leone. Malik has served as a deputy foreign minister in Moscow twice before in his' diplomatic career, and he is believed to have retained the title during his tenure at the United Nations. He is one of nine deputy foreign ministers, ranking third in the foreign ministry hierarchy behind Foreign Minister Andrei A. Gromyko and First Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily V. Kuznetsov. Western officials in Moscow believe Malik was moved from the United Nations to give him lighter duties because of his age and health. ' t i. LPumi SPECIAL :$PEIOX)!R Author of sey Slightly by Ricban!
