Jimmy Jones, who tied Wendell Ladner for Memphis scoring honors with 18, became the seventh ABA player to career pass the 5,000-poimark. In another development, the New York Nets of the ABA announced that superforward Rick Barry, who reinjured his right foot last Friday, will be sidelined for about five weeks with what physicians called a fatigue fracture. 3-- Jim Paterson, Salt Lake center, will be hoping to con- -' tinue to haunt his old teammates. Paterson, who played play. the previous years policy would remain in effect, Stevenson said. The old policy stated that in the event of a tie, the team with a previous win over the other would represent the division in the quarterfinals. However, on Sept. 2 just before the opening of the regular football schedule of Division One (Davis County schools) met in a reg- state prin-cipa- ls ular principals meeting and decided to change the playoff policy and allow teams tied for the division championship to playoff for the state berth, Stevenson said. When it was apparent last week that there will be a tie in Division Two, a regional directors meeting was called Monday. Principals of both divisions voted at that time whether to amend the policy to allow for a playoff. The vote was against the playoff. East and West principals voted for a playoff. Asked why Division One principals voted since they had already changed the policy, Stevenson answered: It was a regional meeting so all principals voted. There was apparently no opposition against it, and if they would have requested I would have allowed only the Division Two schools to vote, he said. As the voting went, its apparent that even without Division One schools voting, the vote would have been against the playoff. The feelings toward playoffs are mixed since it would require a team to play three games in nine days. Some coaches want them, others 9-- 2 Eagle general manager-coac- h for the Wednesday game, but Gus Bodnar is expected to go Wednesday with two of it has not yet been determined the three same, forward lines he used over the weekend. The line of left winger Murray Kuntz, Joe Robertson - and right winger 'Jack Rathweil will remain intact also. Hicks absence will likely give newcomer Barry Watson a chance on a line centered by Paterson. Roger DeJordy will man the other wing. defense-me- n d If Paul Terbenche and Jean Guy Legace arrive and are rested by game time, they will suit up and see action on defense. If not, Salt Lakes defensive lineup will stay the same. Bob Heaney, Jim (Red Eye) Hay, Dave Woodley, Francois McNabb, Larry Lacombe and Steve Cuddie have been doing the defensive work for the Eagles. Goalie Charron will definitely suit up if he arrives in time newly-acquire- by Bodnar whether he or Farr will start. Bodnar may lean toward Charron, since he will obviously be psychologically up for his old teammates. The fact that the Roadrunners had held Charron out of action until the trade should make him even more eager to dose the net against them. Right winger Ted Hodgson, who complained of a sore knee after the Denver tie and was sent back to Salt Lake before the Phoenix game, has been cleared medically and is ready to return to action. Jim Armstrong, Salt Lakes No. 1 goalie at the end of last season has returned to the Eagle team. He worked out Monday, but Bodnar indicated it is doubtful he will be ready for Wednesdays game.
