But notwithstanding tins, the geographic location of the Garden of Eden, was made known to the Prophet Joseph Smith by revelation to be in Jack-soCounty, Missouri, with Independence n the Reformation and the surge freedom was gaining momen- Whiletum Europe and England, events were transpiring leading to the rediscovery of the land of America, for God touched the heart of a mariner by the name of Christopher Columbus, who eventually pioneered a passageway to the promised land in T1J2. But Columbus, the Nephites, or the Jaredites were not its original discoverer, nor did they establish the purpose of Americas destiny. This had already been established in the infancy of earth's habitation. In thee migrations they wer e but directed to the land of man's beginning upon the earth. We have learned that following His earth-lifministry among the Jews, visiting the sheep of another fold here in the land of America and establishing His Church among the people, the resurrected Christ tells of the founding of America "and the coming forth, again, of His Gospel unto the remnant of the seed of those then occupying this land, and unto all of the children of God which was to follow a period of spiritual darkness upon the earth. In this declaration the Lord tells of the sacred destiny of this great land. And verily I say unto you, I give unto you a sign, that. ye may know the time when these things shall be about to take that I shall gather in from their place long dispersion, my people, 0 house of Israel, and shall establish again among them my Zion. (Ill Nephi 21:1.) The Lord in the following declaration designated the land ol America as the land of inheritances unto those who are of the House of Israel who shall be gathered Trom throughout the earth for said He: And then shall the remnants, which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth, be gathered in from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north; and they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them. "And the Father hath commanded me that I should give unto you this land, for your inheritance. And behold, this people will I establish in this land, unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I made with your father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem. And the powers of Heaven shall be in the midst of this people; yea, even I will be in the midst of you.(III Nephi 20:13, 14, To speak of America, both North 22.) a and South, as "The choice land we will need to go land consecrated back to the beginning for an understanding. From the writings of the Prophet Moses, dealing with the placement of man upon the earth, this statement is made: "And I, the Lord God, planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there 1 put the man whom I had formed. was not good for man to be alone, so or woman was placed a help-mebeside him that both man and woman together could occupy the garden thus planted. As to what and where the Garden of Eden was, it is well to call to mind that in the ptocess of creation, during the third period, all waters were gathered in one place, and dry land was in one place. The land w as called Earth and the waters the Sea. The dry land, or Earth is also given another name, that of Eden, and it was eastward in Eden or eastward on the dry land that tlie garden for out first earth life parents was placed. In the course of ime from the Creation, In the days of Peleg, or about the year of 2200 B.C. just prior to the confusion of the k languages, the single continent of land which had continued from creation wa3 di-- ' in e It 14 CHURCH WEEK as the center place. When Adam and Eve were cast out of this garden, they traveled in a northerly direction less than 100 miles to settle in a place that we have now come to know by the revealed word of God, as Here is where moi tal family life began, as Adam and Eve begat sons and daughters, all of this here in America. n. and Eve, shut out from the of God, settled in the place of their earthly abode and called upon God. They were instructed to offer the firstlings of their flocks upon altars as a sacrifice unto the Lord, to which commandment they were ubedient even though not knowing the reason. An angel of the Lord then appeared and explained the similitude of the sacrifice of Christ the Lord who would come to earth at an appointed time. Thereafter the Gospel plan of salvation and exaltation, by reconciliation with God the Father, from whose presence they had been banished, was revealed for the first time to men upon the earth. The Holy Priesthood, after the order of the Son of God, which administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God, was conferred upon Adam. Hence, unto Adam, the great progenitor of the human family, was given the keys of salvation. The Lord, or Ahman, thus made known unto Adam and Eve that though they had fallen aM were subject to both physical and spiritual deaths, they could be redeemed, and reconciled with God (he Father. Adam conferring the keys of salvation upon Adam, the revealing and unlocking of the conditions of salvation were made known to them and through them to mankind. In this we can Understand the true meaning of tlie term, or simply, from Ahman, who is tlie Lord, one!;' meaning through Adam unto mankind. In the revelation already referred to, but to which more attention is now given, tlie Lord speaks clearly of the keys of salvation having been given to Adam, or name, identifying Michael, his the purpose for which they were conferred. That you may conte up unto the crown prepared for you, and be made rulers over many kingdoms, saith tlie Lord God, the Holy One of Zion, who hath established the foundations of In n, pre-mort- hath appointed Michael your prince, and established his feet, and set him upon high, and given unto him the keys of salvation under the counsel and direction of the Holy One, who is without beginning of days or end of life. (D&C Who 78:13, 16.) for it is necessary in the ushering the dispensation of the fulness of times, which dispensation is now beginning to usher in, that a whole and complete and perfect union, and w'elding together of dispensations, and keys, and powers, and glories should take place, and be revealed from the days of Adam even to the present time. (D&C 128 :18) In the light of this revelation it is not difficult to see why the saints of the latter-dasettled at that this very sacred and important segment of mans earth-lifexistence, as a result of direct involvement could be borne record of to the world by the heralds who are sent forth to proclaim the truths and saving ordinances of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are privileged, ly revelation to the . . . fn of y ENDING OCTOBER' 12," e lW Prophet Joseph Sn.'th, to have an account of one of the great early events that transpired in the valley of Three years previous to the death of Adam, he called Seih, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, and Methuselah, who were all high priests, with the residue of his posterity who were righteous, Into the valley of and there bestowed upon them his last blessing. And the I .ora appeared unto them, and they rose up and blessed Adam, and called him Michael, the prince, the archangel. And the Lord administered comfort unto Adam, and said unto him; I have set thee to be at the head; a multitude of nations shall come of thee, and thou art a prince over them forever. And Adam stood up in the midst of the congregation; and, notwithstanding he was bowed down with age, being full of the Holy Ghost, predicted whatsoever should befall his posterity unto the latest generation. "These things were all written in tlie book of Enoch, and are to be testified of in due time. (D&C 107:53-57.- ) Tiiis family meeting of Adam and his righteous posterity occurred approximately in the year of 3177 B.C. Thus, from these brief accounts we see the reasons why America, or tlie Continent of America, is tlie promised land choice above all other lands, for it was here that the habitation of man began, and here w'here covenants were fast established. And it is from the center of this the choice land that God lias started his woik that will carry to great latter-dathe finish. y It is of compelling interest to learn that in the sequence of the Lord's time, the earth and the waters will return to their original position. On this subject have this fiom tlie w-- Lord: And he shall utter his voice out of Zion, and he shall speak from Jerusalem, and his voice shall be hoard among all people: And it shall be a voice as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder, which shall break down the mountains, and the valleys shall not be found. He shall command the great dep, and it shall be driven back into the north countries, and the islands shall become one land; And the land of Jerusalem and the land of Zion shall be turned back into their own place, and t..e earth shall be like as it was in the days before it was di- vided And the Lord, even the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people, and shall reign over all flesh. (D&C 122:21-25.- ) America as Zion will not fail Since America is the land choice above all other lands, and it is in the Center Place that Zion will be established, it will not fail. America as Zion will not fail, not simply because it is the land of our illustrious independence and constitutional fathers, but because it is the land of Joseph, the son of Jacob and has been so established by Gods Covenant. It is the land for the gathering of Lsrael in the culminating period of the last dispensation which God has established through the Prophet Joseph Smith. To accomplish His purposes in the destiny of America as Zion, we have these words from the Lord concerning His people: But first let my army become very great, and let it be sanctified before me, that it may become fair as the sun, and clear as the moon, and that her banners may be terrible unto all nations. I bear testimony to the fulfillment of these prophecies in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. New Techniques Outlined In Departmental Sessions Continued from Page 3. 1,431 persons attended six departmental sessions Oct. 4. On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6, 826 persons were in attendance at three departmental meetings for stake superintendents and assistants, where the Sunday Schools new teacher training program was intro- duced. In all departmental meetings, the Sunday School officers and teachers were challenged to get into the lives of members of the Church ; to build in them testimonies of the divinity of Christ and a desire to live Gospel teachings. As teachers and administrators we can either be bystanders on shore, frantically warning youth of the dangers ahead or we can do as President McKay suggests: Get into the boat with them and counseled help them steer the stream, Wayne F. Richards, general board chairman of the Youth Area meeting. Joseph L. Bishop of Chicago South Stake discussed Student Interaction and Learning Activities at the same meeting. He told stake assistant superintendents (Youth Area) and course advisers to learn more of the learning process and of the learner himself. Students advance more rapidly if they are actively involved in tlie actual learning process, Mr. Bishop said. Mrs. Ethna R. Reid, chairman of the Child Area meeting, urged Junior Sunday School coordinators, stake course advisers i and stake superintendents to develop programs in which children can more actively participate. The departmental session expanded on tlie conference theme by urging that children be the doers. Rather than adults taking over, we want children to do as much as possible, Mrs. Reid told She said wards are encouraged to dismiss youngsters from Junior Sunday School opening exercises following the sacrament service. Stressing reverence, she explained that a child sitting quiety is not necessarily a sign of reverence or that learning is taking place. Clarence E. Wonnacott, chairman, of the Adult Area departmental meeting, gave some key points on leadership : An individual grow's as an administrator and matures as a leader; a leader who has a deep interest in people an interest as great in tlie people who arc doing the work as in the work itself. As a leader, he must have knowledge of the art of supervision which implies full and complete communication Mr. Wonnacott said. communication, but it is Supervision implies more than being a spectator or looker-oIt implies awareness on tlie part of both the supervisor, and tlie superthree-year-ol- d two-wa- y over-seein- n. vised. . ; i i I i i i I I |
