Show Teen Task Force Mowing Brigade Salt Lake City Parks Department has an army all its own. This army differs from the usual armies In that its weapons' are trucks, lawn mowers, trimming shears, and ail of the soldiers are teens. Their day begins about 8 a m. when they all meet at the Parks Department Shops. Superintendent Mickelson gives each of the boys his assignment; they load the trucks with all equipment needed for the day then theyre off! Le-la- 'srrrrts' Small teams of boys are dropped off at various areas in the city, fine large brigade usually stays intact and goes to one of the bigger parks or other city recreation spots ty C :,3.- ( ir - t" When they reach their destination mowers are gassed up, then the sound of motors starting can be heard all over the park. -- 'sJ v. .b-vi;- r . Sometimes that varies if there is a special event coming up (such as July 24) that requires additional preparation in the parks or if there is a lull in work. work-week- r rtf' In addition to mowing park lawns, trimming hedges and around shrubbery, picking up papers, the boys also take the responsibility of helping keep the equipment in operative condition Technical mechanic work is reported to the shop and taken care of by a professional, but general maintenance t ri'. vl-- Mr. Leonatd Cosco, administrative assistant to the Parks Commissioner, highly commends this summer teen task force. They perform an extremely useful service for us and the community. In addition, it helps them as a deterrent to delinquency and gives them additional money for school.
