I niiliitiiiiiuittttiffliiiimnmiiiiniimi!iiinniimiiniitMiiiitmim By HOWARD PEARSON Deseret News Television Editor . . It's difficult . to know how the public is really taking the television-season- . For instance,, in a local department njw store the other day I heard a pharmacist say to a clerk: 'What do you think of the new television season? Ive seen most of the new shows and I think they are almost the same as we've been having. Then the pharmacist said : But I like this Judd (story of n attorney) even if it is like some of the other lawyer shows. I also think Garrison's Gorillas had a lot of excitement. Its something like Combat. Channel Chuckle Someone in a food store was talking about the new shows. "I saw half of Good World I and Morning, thought it was pretty good. I Billy DeWolfe. But I thought that one about the New York police (N.Y.P.D.), was just like others 9! that type. In other words, theres still that "on the other hand that makes it difficult to determine what televiewers really think of the new programs. If it hadnt been for the r special on Africa, my own opinion is that this new season would be similar to all the others as far as it has gone. The special on Africa has given the start of the new season a promise of ' especlall ylike four-hou- 1811 program was brought to yov tiv except for me. I am on film." i. , different. In I fact, ABC has received so much fiKgram on Africa that the documentary r ado four parts for telecasts once $Kmth. pie 'Show will be telecast on Ch. 4 at Tuesday for four weeks. There isnt too much to say about the other shows. If it weren't for that cute Sally Field, I think Flying Nun would be cancelled in about two weeks. It does have gimmicks that could keep it going, however. Ironside, the new series starring Raymond Burr as a police officer In wheelchair, depends considerably on the personality of Burr. If the public will accept him as a crochety, of character, instead of the easyLionel Barrymore-typ- e going, likeable Mason, the series might go over. e His aides aren't the type we had on Perry public coaid grow to like them just as well. because they are attractive and nice people. This series coaid be the best new one of the season. Mum, bat the name for ip cerium lonely t - woven cotton 5 Retail unttatdily Dragnet seems to have settled into a routine that will attract viewrs who dont realize they are being fed the same lines and situations with different names each week. The premiere episode Thursday night was little different from the next to the last rerun of the summer. In fact, I believe it had the same dialogue between Jack Webb and his aide while they were in the police car. Cimarron Strip opened with violence and closed with the same. Its pilot episode had violence, too, and ended with Stu-'a- rt Whitman killing Telly Savalas. This will be seen here later. There has been violence on other shows, too. Mannix, the aeries that stars Mike Connors, starts out with combat with fist and guns. Dundee and the Culhane, which is supposed to play up legal battles of the old West, also featured physical violence in its first episode, but this might become acceptable because it is countered by that wonderful agting of John Mills. . Hondo, which premiered last week, had the old Indian violence, but so did the documentary about race riots. The aforementioned Flying Nun hasn't had anything .violent yet. I Gentle Ben had some violence in the opening episode, but Jhe appealing father-sorelationship, between Clint Howard jid Dennis Weaver, more than makes up for the scenes of n physical contact.
