Remember the great teams in Wichitas basketball past? The ones that went into the nationsT" fhtia a couple of years ago with Princeton, Michigan, and UCLA in Portland? Wichita beat SMU and Oklahoma State In the NCAA playoffs to get to the final four and then wall that first ran Into a Bin round and came out worst by 11882. Bradley-Princeto- U one-gam- But this was Wichitas big year in sports. Until this year in football. Most Pass Completions Imagine what Wichita has going for it this year. John Eckman was last years passing champion. He threw the ball for 195 completions and that was enough to give him the No. 1 completion spot. That brings him into the spotlight as an candidate. As far as yardage from passing went, Wichita was way behind Brigham Young and five others. BYU, through Virgil Carters efforts, was fifth best hut year. Wichita was seventh, Utah State, of course was not listed. Eckman has Glenn Meltzer to throw to again thk yew. Meltzer was only a sophomore last season when he led the nations pass catchers with 91 receptions. Maybe this passing combination should give Wichita that edge the mathematicians allow Utah State going into this game. 20-poi- nt Only A 2-- 8 Finish Otherwise this observer cant see much in Wichitas way to get wild about The Shockers were at the bottom of the heap In the rather ordinary Missouri Valley Conference wound up with a disastrous 8 season. Maybe this mans a genious and his award last year would indicate he has some unusual tal- ents. But when you deal with that many new men, three of whom are with Eckman in the backfield, you are touching a little the unknown realm. But like I said, Wichitas wild about this years football frolic. If The Aggies Aren't Scsred If this doesnt scare Utah State and anyone else there is reason to suspect that Utah State might stage an upset The Aggie morale is high.
