Brown of the First Presidency addiessed the seminar for new members of stake presidencies and bishoprics of foieign stakes Monday m the assembly room of the Church offices The seminar was presented by Presiding Bishop John II Vandenberg and Bishop Robert L. Simpson and Bishop Victor L. Brown, and the office staff President Brown noted it was remai e that so many foreign groups could be gathered in one room and through interpreters receive a common understanding, as they are welded together through a band of brotherhood." He emphasized that the Church is not the Church of America, England, or any other country but the Church of Jesus Chiist He presides, not only over the Church but over the world He has asked for you to make a contribution of tone and work to His work . . President N Eldon Tanner, second counselor In the First Presidency, gave official Church recognition to the award when he presented a silver trophy at the closing ceremony of Family Movie Day at Brigham Young University. At the banquet, when he presented the silver trowith Disney of phy to Winston Hibler, the film, and Vera Miles, Latter day Saint actress who starred In the movie, President Tanner said: The First Presidency is happy to recognize the choice of the sponsoring organizations It is wholly in accord with this movie as the best family film of the year. The sponsoring organizations to which he referred are the Improvement Era, Deseret News, KSL-Tand radio and BYU. President Tanner also read from the program the tribute to Follow Me, Boys written by William B. Smart, executive editor of the Deseret News: Presented to Follow Me, Boys for its insight into the potential that lies beneath the unpromising external shell of a boy; for its recognition of the qualities of patience and understanding and love without which no adult can help unlock that potential; for its tribute to a great American youth organization and the men and boys that make It and the women great; and especially, for its portrayal of the truth that life can be challenging and fun and good; for these qualities and for the hope that others In the movie industry will accept Walt Disneys invitation to Follow Me, Boys to more wholesome and uplifting family entertainment, this fine motion picture is honored. In V Vera Miles, active IDS movie star, accepts plaudits for top Disney film. B. In his invocation, Elder Ezra Taft Benson of the Council of the Twelve, prayed that members of the Church would seek "worthy entertainment of the type being recognized in the award He asked that Church members be guided to seeking uplifting experiences when they attend theaters. The same call was sounded by Dr. Ernest L. Wilkinson, piesidcnt of BYU, in his benediction at the banquet. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Hibler, who produced, directed and wrote more than 100 television and theater movies with Mr. Disney, pledged the continued efforts of that studio to make family films. Representing the sponsoring organizations, E. Earl Hawkes, publisher of the Deseret News, called Follow Me, Boys a stirring, human motion picture. He said: "We are happy to honor a film of this type. It is the kind of family entertainment we like to foster Doyle L. Green, managing editor of the Improvement Era, represented one other sponsoring organization by acting as emcee for the program L H. Curtis, vice president and general manager KSL-Tand radio, representing the fourth sponsoring organization for the Family Movie Award, was keynote speaker for an assembly in the Field House. The assembly was attended by 10,000 students who saw Miss Miles take part In a sketch from the movie and a program which featured acts from the BYU drama department. A further activity was a panel discussion for drama students who questioned Mr Ihbler and Miss Miles about the making of "Follow Me, Boys and other productions. Another highlight of the assembly was award of the annual family movie scholarship, to be known as the Follow Me, Boys scholarship. Karen Cannon, a student in drama at BYU, received the honor.
