Show Page a Student Lite Friday niay 14 t iy6 Life is doing itself as well as the majority of the students here a disservice by strongly criticizing a proposed student operated FM station This station could be a real asset to this campus not only information by playing some decent music KUSU’s staff might think about but by serving as an effective it medium in addition to Student 9 Sensual State ® U subfrequency to the blind in the Where are their heads? Those “planners” committees and Mr Taggart Where did he think he was when he let the $20000 go for the tennis courts? Back at oF Sensual State U? As long as he’s reminiscing why don’t we hit him for the outdoor heated swimming pool catered meals saunas and sun decks for the dorms no contracts an FM station a private ski slope 5 more racquetball courts heated sidewalks and a nine-hol- e golf course or whatever else we’d like “Give ’em what they want!” “If they’re goin’ be here four years night as well enjoy it ! ” Appeal to those senses ! Ah! Four new tennis courts no waiting on Saturday morning Ah! A new fountain! (Though we’d forget about that one?) Really cools one’s feet on a hot summer day when nobody’s here What are we here for? Four years and we’re good skiers and tennis players right? What’s happening here? Where are we being led? Would a responsible parent send their child alone to the toy or candy store with a blank check? It seems that’s the way we’re going Are there any direction-oriente- d accountable decisions made on this campus? Where is the “good sense” in it all? Supposedly that’s what those “planners” are paid to have and use Does it make sense to spend $20000 on some tennis courts to be used 6 months a year when instead some can be built to be used 12 months a year? Does it make sense to accept money for building a fountain when you know you don’t need it? NO! What you do need is better teachers better paid better library and research materials and better study facilities and curriculum innovations If Education! then get off the sensual trip and dig into whatever makes good sense for learning area The newspapers are the Salt Lake Tribune and the Logan Herald Journal The Tribune is read at the studios of KBYU onto a tape The tape is boradcast in some way to another tape at theKUSU studios where it is then boradcast over the Dave Howell 529-84-11- 77 Not another rock station sub frequency I am not sure of the procedure used for the Herald Journal Now the question I have for the KUSU management is why they don’t read Student Life over the air? Dear Sirs: I was very displeased to pick up Monday’s Student Life and find two separate intense attacts (sic) a proposed USU FM rock station Both articles question the I work for the paper but that is necessity of an FM rock station I not the reason for my question question the necessity of these nor am I on an ego trip to hear my two articles Student Life and Easy Ed work broadcast Some of the blind on campus aren’t going to find the necesand in the valley may be in- sities just by interviewing four terested in knowing what is going students You’re also not going to on at USU Cliff Cheney and his make us cry by telling us that staff give adequate coverage of Nolan Johnson doesn’t like Student Life so he’s dumping the the campus but their main inresolution on it’s budget terest has to be the city If Student Life is genuinely Student Life’s interest is the and wants to deterinterested is about Its audience campus students and for students It mine the necessity of a student could consequently give the blind operated station why not print up of the valley better information a “clip out” simple voluntary about what is happening on questionaire in your paper? the campus because some of these You’d be helping determine coninterest to know a like what required “public people might good-size- d portion of the valley’s venience and necessity” Come on guys lets play fair now population is reading or doing I personally feel that Student could this Life Student provide on deficit Remember that it was not so long ago that people were saying who needs a student paper”? Please don’t obscure the issue ll by quoting it as “another or “bulletin station” ll board” Everyone likes Life to a certain extent but I’m I also don’t believe that Student sure that a student operated Life is going to be sacrificed over Station will be able to play all this station Ten thousand dollars kinds of music to just about is a lot of money to be allocated everyones tastes I’ve got a from any budget Isn’t it logical feeling that Lawrence Welk fans that it would be requested may be disappointed however through the Publications Board Thanks for hearing me out aside from say maintenance?
