afternoon to tangle with the BYU Kittens That game will be played at Provo High School’s 26-2- abling the Kittens to run their season record to 1 Running back Clay Blackwell who rushed for 240 yards working today” said USU goalie Alan Huestis Near the end of the period a penalty shot gave the home team-0 lead as “super foot” Ray Wong drilled the shot into the upper left hand corner The second half saw Colorado come to life and they scored quick into the third period Sid Pacter USU backup goalie started the period but was taken out after CU’s Brian Parker found the mark Alan Huestis went the 2-- 2-- 2-- 2-- early and dominating the first half faltering a bit in the second The starting goalie for CSU Brian McPhereson let in two fairly easy ones Tom Knudsen slid a slow roller into the lower left hand corner and Glen Kas-trinbroken nose and all came back and lobbed a shot over McPhereson’s head shortly after os CSU then changed goalies bringing in Keven Wachter Wachter had never played goalie before and was pressed into action due to the fact that CSU left their back up goalie coach and about a third of the team back in Colorado This was because of an unfortunate auto accident — a head on collision between one of their vans and a semi truck just outside Steamboat Springs No other information is available concerning the wreck In the early going Wachter said he was nervous: “I’m so nervous my hands are like bones” refering to how he was catching the ball Nevertheless he played flawlessly making several fine stops especially in the latter part of the game and overtime periods Midway through the second period CSU came to life and scored a couple of fast goals The first an outright power play in which the USU defense failed to clear as CSU kept up extreme pressure and the second a close range shot that beat Huestis clean The CSU marksmen were Jerry O’Grady and Greg Knolls The two teams ended regula- tion play knotted at two all And neither team could break the tie in the two ten minute overtime periods that followed USU goalie Huestis claims that the Aggie soccer team is finally coming into shape “We’ve got all our players now We’re playing well”
