Show Friday April 19 1974 Page 10 w V sister big brother program stresses importance of dedication Muna Mohmoud a six year old kindergarten foreign student at Hillcrest Elementary School was a little sister in the Big brother and sister program through VOICE last quarter Her big sister Karen Beck has quit the program this quarter from lack of time but Muna doesn’t know this Mrs Mohmoud said that her daughter came to love her temporary big sister but that she just stopped coming about three weeks ago the end of last quarter Muna or her mother have np idea of what happened to her big sister or that the program lasted one quarter and the student received two credits for her time and effort Muna like many foreign students has trouble adjusting to the American culture as well as TENNIS anyone? the importance of students volunteering for the program needing to follow through with it The children just don’t understand when they come to trust and love these students and they just quit coming It is a responsibility as well as a privilege said Linford to work with these children Besides helping the child the students learn from the experience also Mrs Mohmoud said that it was very good for her daughter and now she can speak a little English “I really enjoyed the program and got a lot out of it” said Beck Some of the activities that they did were color made valentines sewed typed and made cookies The activities they do are not supposed to cost very much or go program stressed ± Y$r from Hillcrest Elementary have The program will also be extended to involve group activities maybe three per quarter to get more enthusiasm and group involvement The age group they will work with this quarter will be fourth through sixth graders Linford said because these children have more problems and need contact with an older person outside of their family MfiimfwuBTiinm— LITTLE VOTE TODAY!
