Show April 11 1973 Page 3 ASUSU secretary candidates reveal their platforms In an interview with Student April 9 1973 the following responses were given by the candidates for the office of ASUSU Secretary The canLife on job as working closely with the other members of the executive didates are Marty Hibbard and Carole Harris Student Life: “What preparation have you had for this job?” Marty Hibbard: “There are two types of preparation needed for this job One is secretarial training and the other is student council because I feel the secretary’s job is just that--t- o be there and coordinate the activities of the council to assist the president and other officers to aid them and help out “I also feel the secretary should have a vote as well as a voice in the student government She is efficient and should be able to show something for her talents Whether the secretary is a girl or a boy the position is as important as any other position” involvement first Concerning the have worked as a for the past few years secretary in the Military Science Building I am experienced in typing and other things which would be very beneficial I was “Secondly of my freshman class and presently am serving as STaB Hospitality Chairman” I vice-preside- nt Carole Harris- -I agree this job as these two aspects One needs secretarial training I am a business major and have worked in offices in that capacity I have also worked in high school leadership positions that required a lot of secretarial training “Secondly one also needs to want to be a good leader I have held leadership positions in my sorority and on campus committees Most important is the desire to want to be a good leader and to serve in a leadership position” Carole Harris Student Life: “How do you perceive the job of secretary and would you want to change the job in any way?” Carole Harris: “I perceive the Marty Hibbard: “I perceive the job as a challenge to me and also an opportunity to work wth a lot of people and a chance to be a part of student government The secretary should represent the student and be able to work with the student The secretary should also have the vote back again She is elected by the student body just as much as any of the other officers Student Life: “How much time would you devote to this job?” Marty Hibbard: “I realize the secretary’s job does take a lot of time and I am willing to give it the time it needs She should be in her office quite often to represent the students and help them if they have any questions Carole Harris: “Organization plays a big part in how much time one has to devote to this job If and an you are efficient secretary with enough experience then you should be automatically well enough organized so that you don’t have to spend as much time as someone else who maybe isn’t as well-organiz- well organized A lot of the time is spent working with the other officers in their roles and I would spend as much time as it takes ‘Black Emphasis Week Widener (Continued from page One) transforms Black Power into People Power His election platform included a strong anti-wa- r policy and family-oriente- d ideas such as rent control free day-car- e centers and an income tax instead of a property tax He is 33 years old Mayor Widener’s background is as impressive and as diverse as ’ f© speak his goals He is a graduate of the Law-Scho- University of Berkeley ol and has worked in a missile Control Office for SAC Administrative Assistant to an Assemblyman Real Estate Law Councilman and Mayor of Berkeley Dr Widener is scheduled to speak at 10:30 am in the FAC and for a panel discussion at 1: 30 pm in the Sunburst Lounge Forum scheduled “Black Students in Utah” will be The Forum’s focus this Wednesday at 12:30 in the Library Lobby Mike Clark Black Studies Coordinator at the University of Utah and Daily Oliver of the Ethic Studies Department and Black Student Union advisor at Weber State College will lead the discussion Richard Horton U of TTtah Wphctpr Hendricks and Russell Hawkins of the Black Student Union at USU and a representative from the BSU at Weber State will also join the panel of speakers The Forum will examine the situation of black students in Utah their problems and opportunities The acitivites and goals of the Black Student Unions will be described The Forum is supporting Black Emphasis Week |
