Show Page 4 The PARSON NA TO Oui! France No! Spring by Jim Haig Parson Columnist Recent events In Western Europe are giving evidence to a rising dissatisfaction with Frances policies by her fellow Western European nations. This past week West Germany submitted an ultimatum to France informing her that unless she removes French troops from West German soil, they would be placed under German control. This statement of German policy reflects the growing agitation toward France concerning her proposed withdrawl from NATO. I believe this is a sign of things to come concerning French policies and attitudes. England has far from forgotten Frances veto of her proposed entry into the European Common Market. England is fighting for her economic life in Europe at the present time and this move by France destroyed much of Englands prestige in foreign affairs. Whether Charles DeGaulle knows it or not, he is creating a rather unhealthy situation for France in Western Europe. The protests heard thus far against France's policies are just the beginning of many to follow. Until Charles DeGaulle recovers from his dream of an all powerful France, or until the voters cast him out, France will continue to lose the respect of her once staunch allies and the free world.
