Show February 9, 1966 THE PARSON Page 4 Intramural Turnout I3ig by Rich Lee, Parson Sports Editor The intramural sports porgram has met with great participation from both the students and the faculty this year. In the intramurals, concluded in volleyball December, there were ten teams, with a 0 total of participants. The final standings show the Sophomore I team in first place followed by the Senior III team in second and the Junior II team in third place. The Sophomore I team, captained by Dob Tuttle, showed fine teamwork and good individual play in winning its second straight championship. They also have the distinction of being undefeated in volleyball intramurals for two consecutive seasons and they have considered challenging the champion Podunk U. (P.U.) Faculty team to a match. Intramural John Jennings the that basketball has intramural reports been met with enthusiastic participations on the part of all the players. The schedule includes a record twelve teams divided into two leagues, the Peter Pan League, playing on Thursday evenings and the Mother Goose League on Mondays. The Senior I team led by Dick Olwine is the team to beat in the Peter Pan League, with the Sophomore I team captained by Terry Callahan a strong challenger. Sophomore area. have to travel very far east before the name of Westminster College would bring the question, Which one? So in order to keep the names straight, lets take a look at the Westminster College cousins. The first stop is at Fulton, Missouri, where Westminster College was founded in 1851. It is the only four -- year liberal arts college for men west of the Mississippi River, and has a current enrollment 2- -5 0-- 7 Farther east is a third Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1852, it was one of the first colleges in the nation to grant degrees to women. It has an enrollment of 1,225. All three of these Westminsters are affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church. The last of the family is Westminster Choir College, a private, coeducational school in Princeton, New Jersey, with an enrollment of 283. Utahs Westminster College has one other cousin, although not a namesake. In A 1895, Presbyterian Missionary from Washington, D.C., who was serving in the western United States and Alaska, provided badly needed support to a struggling school in Salt Lake City. The name of the school became the Sheldon Jackson College, after its benefactor. Sheldon Jackson College merged with the Collegiate Institute in 1910 to become the present Westminster College. Today, in Sitka, Alaska, Sheldon Jackson Junior College holds the distinction of being Alaskas oldest school. It has 73 students on a 360-ac- re campus and attracts an of the Alaskan interracial cross-secticommunity.
