Show Welcome Back Alums Welcome Back Alums Westminster College, December 14, 1963 Chi Members Chosen Alpha Fall Awards AssemLee, Tom Metcalf, and At the bly last Monday juniors and seniors eligible for membership in Alpha Chi the national honorary scholastic fraternity were announced. Those eligible for senior membership are Don Garnas, Marion Lewis, Homer Ng, Suzanne Nissen, Kathy Sehwer-tz- , Barbara Smith, and Diane Tuck. To be a senior member the student must be in of his class the top 10 scholastically. Marion Lewis, Homer Ng, and Kathy Schwertz are junior members from last year now eligible for senior membership. Candidates for junior membership are Emily Herbert, Terry Gary Stark. These students must have a 3.5 cummulative grade point average and be in the top 10 of their class. It was announced in the Awards Assembly Monday, December 9, that Barbara Hall, Barbara Smith, Diane Tuck, Mike Hogben, Suzanne Nissen, Larry Reynolds, Kathy Schwertz and Bob Williams were appointed to the national organization for recognition of college students. Miss Hall, an Elementary Education major, has been president of AWS, treasurer of her junior class, secretary of S.E.A., president of Hogle Hall and a member of Stevenson Memorial. Ginger Gore To Reign As Queen Purpose Explained Alpha Chi is dedicated to the stimulation of a spirit of scholarship and devotion to the truth whenever such may be found. The object of Alpha Chi is the promotion and recognition of scholarship and of those elements of character which make scholarship effective for good among the academic divisions of colleges and universitites in the United States. Alpha Chi is to the small college what Phi Beta Kappa is to the large university. Eight Westminsters Students Selected For Who s Who Eight Westminster students have been chosen to appear in the publication Whos Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. of Alpha Chi honorary fraternity and Stevenson Memorial. A former cheerleader, S.E.A. treasurer, a life member of Stevenson Memorial and a member of Alpha Chi honorary fraternity, Miss Tuck is a Biology Education major. Mike Hogben, who is a Psychology major, is presently SGAC president and a past member of the Carleson Dorm Council. An English major, Mrs. Nissen is a member of Sigma Pi Alpha honorary language fraternity, Stevenson Memorial and Alpha Chi honoray fraternity. She is also recipient of the English Department Gwen Aupperle First Attendant Kathy Schwertz majoring in English Education is Parson editor, a member of Alpha Chi honorary fraternity, a life member of Stevenson Memorial, and was secretary of her junior class and of AWS. Bob Williams, a Political Science major, is a member of M.U.N., Political Science Club, Westminster Players, and of S.G.A.C. These students will receive certificates of recognition from the organization. They will also receive recognition in the form of a write-uof their personal records in the annual publication. Ginger Gore Nina Bushmcre 1963 Homecoming Second Queen Ginger Gore has been elected by the student body as 1963 Queen. Homecoming Miss with are Gore Reigning Gwen Aupperle, First Attendant and Nine Rushniore, Second Attendant. Miss Gore is a Junior, majoring in Mathematics, and is from Newrark, Delaware. She was nominated by the Choir, of which she is a member, and is secretary of the junior class. A 1962-6- 3 Attendant Cheerleader, Miss Aupperle is a sophomore and was nominated by her class. She is an Elementary Education major and is from Salt Lake City. A P. E. Education major, Miss Rushmore is from Rock Springs, Wyoming. She is minoring in speech and has appeared in many school productions. She recently directed Ladies in Retirement' She is a presented Dec. junior and was nominated by her class. 4-- 6. em-poyme- through Homecoming Activities recom- mendations and contacts. Today is Westminsters Traditional Homecoming Day, and a big day it promises to affair with refreshments, a floorshow and live orchestra. be. The days events officially begin at 1:00 with a car caravan through the Sugarhouse shopping district. There will be no floats since this year; we voted to have the decorations on campus. The theme of this years Homecoming is Disneyland and Payne Gymnasium will be wildly decorated accoixlingly. After its tour through Sugarhouse the caravan will return to campus and drive under five banners welcoming Alumni. These banners will be made and hung across Burma Road by: Hogle and Carlson Halls; the Political Science, Young Democrats, and Young Republicans organizations; the Outing Club, I.K.s, S.E.A. and the Science Club; The Engineers, A.W.S. and Choir. At 2:00 there will be a .talent show and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and her attendants in Payne Gymnasium. The Homecoming Dance beginning at 10:00. After the game promises to be a gala Tutor Chosen It was announced at the Awards Assembly, Monday, December 9, by Allan W. Bosch, Academic that Larry Reynolds has been selected as Westminster Tutor. Mr. Reynolds, who is chairman of Living Issues Week, was also elected to Whos Who. Recent students who have been granted the distinction of Westminster Tutor are Stewart M. Hanson, Robert J. Stansfield, and Ed Jones, graduates of Westminster. The students who merit privilege of the title Westminster Tutor are selected from the Honors Seminars by the Honors Program Committee. The distinction is granted in recognition of academic excellence, and does not specify any duties. It does, however, carry with it a recommendation to the college administration and the departments in any field which the student may qualify. Vice-Presiden- t, |
