patrolman caught up with Kenny Ala and warned him in no uncertain terms that he was going too fast and had better slow down or else Ala grinned and complied Like many skiers he had gotten a little carried away But what the heck? He was after all glad to be skiing period Kenny Ala lost one leg to cancer several years ago Crowded ski slopes are a showcase for just about every physical and social type imaginable but men like Kenny Ala and Steve Peterson have long held a conviction as to who skiing suits best A lot of people are thankful for that conviction for the Utah Hand- icapped Skiers Association has ©i son ©i p for hfiondicapp used it to inject new meaning into the lives of at least 70 physically handicapped persons in the Northern Utah area Nine years ago Peterson started a helpful yet nondescript ski program that enabled several handicapped persons to participate in a healthy form of recreation His efforts did not go unnoticed for the next year he formed the UHSA which has since prospered with the help of the community the federal government and area ski resorts What started as a hobby has now a week developed into a devotion for Peterson who works full time at Hill Air Force Base as an operations planner in the directorate of distribution This ski season has been slow because of mod 20-ho- them Peterson and several friends build special “three-trackski equipment which consists of one ski and
