Show BIBLE STORIES Joshua The Victorious Warrior NiN order to capture the city of Ai,lieJoshua divided his troops. Thirty thousand of in ambush behind the city. The rest of the army them he sent secretly by night to Joshua led in broad daylight up to the gates of Ai. When the king of Ai saw Joshua K n WMwith his troops outside the gates, he led his army out of the city to do battle with Joshua. Joshua and his troops turned and fled as if in defeat. The king of Ai called all his people out to pursue the Israelites. When they were out of the city, Joshua gave the signal by stretching forth his spear, and the part of the army that was hiding in ambush rushed into the empty city and set it cn fire. The king of Ai and his people turned and saw their cit, burning. At this point, Joshua turned and led his army back against the army of Ai, which was thus caught between the two sections of the Israelite army. Since there was no escape, they were all killed, all except the king, whom Joshua took captive. Joshua hanged him from a tree until evening. Then the body was taken down from the tree and thrown at the city gate and finally buried in a heap of stones. After Joshua's great success in the battles at Jericho and Ai, the king of Gibeon decided to make peace with him instead of resisting. For Gibeon was a larger city than Ai, and the king did not want to see it destroyed. But the other Canaanite kings thought that in making peace with the enemy he was betraying them, so they decided to punish him. Accordingly, the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon combined their armies and descended upon Gibeon. The men of Gibeon knew that they could not withstand the attack of five armies, so they sent word to Joshua to come to their rescue. This Joshua did. He made a forced march all night and surprised the attacking armies in the morning before they could expect him. Joshua put the five kings and their armies to flight. The Lord assured Joshua that He would deliver the enemy into his hands, and so He sent a terrible hail storm upon the retreating forces. More men were killed by hailstones than by the sword that day. The day was not long enough for Joshua to complete his victory, so he shouted during the battle, Sun, stand still on Gibeon, and Moon, stand still over Aijalon. The sun stood still and did not set for an entire day. Israel thus had time to finish its victory over the five kings. There was never a day like that one, neither before nor since, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man and did what he said. The Lord was fighting for Israel. 1968 2ft, Coj tight K Lt Sargent tod Spade Pxeii, lap. in this paper See next Bible Story C LK ILL SPEAK THE LANGUAGE THEY UNDERSTAND OKAY, WELL GO OVER OUR FLAN LATER.
