Show TRIBUTE OF S P E C T iro ivo TO THE ME mony MORY OF OIL ck PTA an STOKEY at a meeting af the government oali mals mais blid kaid and roem berof of the bar of utah territory held ai al salt lake city on the 3 id out nut I 1 F I 1 W V I 1 hoh HOW 0 M 41 lla ila iia hawley aley was wai called to the chair and C 0 clements chosen secretary A committee of nive five consisting of hon OF strickland judge snowden snow gen maxwell B R H bertson robertson Bo and 0 J hollis ter terEa esis qs was appointed to draft reso lut iut lations ions lons expressive express ive ivo of the sense of the meeting relative to the tragic death of wm B R storey U S deputy marshal the following resolutions were submitted by the committee and unanimously adopted whereas our esteemed fellow citizen and friend capt wm R storey U S deputy marshal r on the 2nd and day of may 1870 while in the act of arresting one albert H haws at grants Giants ville in this territory Terri tary charged with murder committed in nevada last fall was shot to death by said haws this is therefore to signify to the world our profound grief at the murder of our friend captain storey and our satisfaction at at the signal retribution which has so soon overtaken his murderer and to tender our thanks personally and on behalf of the community to captain storeys Sto reys aven gers and our sympathy b to those anfor tuDa tuua tely teis wounded in the pursuit and to express our high appreciation of the manly qualities which distinguished our deceased young friend aa as citizen aa as soldier as civil officer in every walk and rela reia relation tion tiou of life which challenged our admiration and esteem while he lived and keeps his memory fresh and fragrant in our hearts now that he is dead and ouk out great satisfaction at the prompt and rapid manner in which the citizens of grantsville Grant Grants ville eville pursued the murderer cutting off all avenues of escape and our profound regret that three of these gallant men have been wounded in the discharge of their weir patriotic dut duty y to them and their friends we extend our most earnest ehrnest sympathy and finally to offer to capt storeys Sto reys relations and friends in other Terr rit ries and States this evidence of our profound respect for the deceased the greatest consolation we can offer them Is to bear witness that during his residence here among us he so deported himself that he became endeared to all the people and by his untimely death we are called upon in sadness to mingle our tears and sorrows with those of his friende friends who are far away tributes of respect were then paid to the memory of the deceased by hons 0 OF F strickland C M hawley and others on motion the chair appointed hon ron solomon P mccurdy to enter a motion in iii the supreme court that these resolutions be spread upon the records of that court and B R H robertson Eo bertson esq to en enter enten ter a like motion in the several TJ S district courts of the territory on motion the secretary was instructed to furnish famish for publication a copy of these resolutions to the city papers and the Corinne reporter 21 J J 0 Q C clemenis CLEMENTS y secretary |
