Show neath DEATH OF PRESIDENT boits OBITUARY behave WE have to record the death of another an other veteran in israel the patriarch president john young at pm of the april 1870 he peacefully passed away surrounded by those he fondly loved and who will always cherish fo for him the dearest tenderness of affection uncle john as he was fam familiarly called by the saints was beloved by all who knew hins bins ee ile was faithful to t every trust and unflinching in his integrity to the last he was waa a sincere and au earnest fol foi follower loyer loTer of the savio savior even wen from his early youth and through a long career of useful usefulness nebs nees inthe ministry he demonstrated by his bis works what he early professed to believe he had bad for several weeks heen been lingering on a siek sick bed which culminated in hi his death at his bia own residence in the thirteenth ward he would have commenced his bia eightieth year on the of next month he was of a robust vigorous temperament and though a full sharer in the stern item trials the saints encountered in their heire exodus sodus from nauvoo and the early settlement ett lement of this valley he might ye yet have lived many years but for a severe accident which occurred to him in the month of february 1864 while travel elleg ing lug to weber valley he encountered i a terrific storm whereby his hia wagon was wae overturned causing him severe injuries while at the same time a severe cold settled upon his lungs from the exposure to the terrible weather of that memorable day still he was indefatigable in his bis labors and never wearied in well doing but died full of the hope of a glorious reunion with the just when whew death shall have an end he was born at hopkinton hopkinson Hop kinton middlesex co mass may 1791 his parents were john young and nabby howe elowe and ho he was the oldest ot al six bix ix sons one of whom Is our beloved president brigham young the deceased was a little more than ten years his senior in eaily early ilfe life he labord labored with liis his father assisting him in farming in the year of his age tie he joined the methodist Metho list church and was devotedly attached 11 to that religion in the year 1813 he married Theod theodocia ocla ocia kimball who bore to him five daughters viz charlotte caroline Carolin 6 louisa clarissa and candace in IS 1825 tie be received hia hla licence as a Me methodist methods thodis s preacher and zealously labored with that chat nomination den deri until he be heard the gospel as restored to this dispensation which was brought to him by his own brothers he was baptized by his bis brother joseph young in hector tompkins co new york in the fall of 1833 shortly after he was ordained an elder and immediately proceeded to kirtland ohio with his bis family where he located on the ath day of july 1834 he proceeded in company with elder evan evana ivl greene and other elders on a mission through the states of ohio pennsylvania and new york preached the gospel baptized several beveral several persons s and raised up a small branch in peran bunday d sy pike co new york in 1836 he returned to kirt hirt land and assisted in the rearing of the temple in 1841 he was ordained a high priest under the hands of elders lyman wight and john P greene and was afterwards appointed president of the stake at a kirtland he was president of the first emigrating corn coin company pany that followed the tho piones to thi alley in 1847 on the th of F b uary nary 1849 he w was wab as set apart as president of the HI high priests quorum moler the hhand hands ass oo 00 of president H U kimball and eider elder john taylor ai position he occupied at the time of his death on tho tha ath of october 1853 be he was called to the office of patriarch and was sustained as such by the vote of the general conference thousands have since been comforted and strengthened in their faith unde under his administration and while they may drop the tear in memory memry ry of the departed still will they feel fee that hat he has died a faithful soldier of th the cross and that he has gone to rea reap th the imperishable reward that awaits h him the funeral services will be hel hei held heid in the tabernacle at 12 in tomorrow to morrow the insl where all who wish to contribute their last token of respect are invited to attend |
