following order company of infantry under capt john me niell martial band under major lee committee of arrangements municipal authorities military off omm meers officers orator and chaplain in c carriages a rr lages with banners string 0 band band and ch choir air in ill ca carriages r ri ayes ares fathers and mothers in israel young ladles ladies sunday school children citizens on foot the rear was brou brought lit up by a company of cavalry uld under er capt washburn chipman the procession marched through the principal streets and as it passed along with banner after banner it was ce certainly r the grandest sight of the kind that ever was seen in this city being sctt sett seated ed in the trio bowery and called to order by the marshal an ode composed for the occasion by major har arington rington ring ton was read by bavm br wm greenwood and sung gung by the choir after which prayer was entered offered by the chaplain arza adams the authorities of the church president johnson and cabinet tile the officers of the he army and navy etc etc were all duly dull bared in toasts and sentiments offered ed speeches were made by richard steele orator of the day wm win greenwood in behalf of the pioneers of and by wm win kelley in behalf of the mormon battalion songs and music by the string and ana martial bands at rpm a dance for file flie f he children at 7 pm a dance for all du dusca duncas DUNCAN Re reporter I 1 PROVO bovo after the customary honors of the day such as guns firing music by the bands and raising flags the inhabitants commenced assembling in the bowery Dowry at 8 am when a L procession was formed under the direction of major L J nuttall marshal of the day in the following order r provo new brass band bp IV miller in his carriage fathers in israel bearing the banners of the pioneers and mormon battalion the mothers next stepped cheerily alon aion along e nowise fainthearted young ladies in white dresses with bright colored scarves and ribbons their ages varying from twelve to eighteen young men of similar ages dressed in black suits carrying maps charts etc they presented an appearance of which any people might well be proud school children attended by their teachers large wagon drawn by oxen mules and horses in the centre of which was a fanning mill will in operation a flail was beail being swung right heartily at one end and a host of farming implements occupied the other wagons containing respectively a loom working basket whip and shoemakers churning and cheese pressing quilting washing and ironing sewing with birds and machines wool wooi carding and spinning a school class straw hat making a barber shop upon v wheels heels pole not omitted in which shop many a little urchin got a handsome crop gratis a portable cook shop conducted by two of our energetic female citizens who seemed to the manner born their stove fuming and sign up tip hot meals at all hours 11 these illustrations of industry and usefulness paraded battalion and pioneers I 1 also J B milner esq on the happi happl dying results of mormon industry and perseverance songs were sung by S bee H white and sunk suni S S jones benediction by the chaplain all evinced an unmistakable feeling i of happiness and contentment I 1 I 1 the juveniles danced beneath the bowery nowery in tile the afternoon and the adults occupied the various halls dialls in the di dis S pursed to regale on the luxuries and substantial prepared the female relief societies met inet and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and the youngsters young soung engaged in the dance while the militia under their respective cornman commander ders derp were drilled finishing up with a sham fight all seemed to enjoy themselves and the day passed away without a ajar jar jan the concourse of citizens and visitors was great the arrangements were admirable the female relief societies mentioned are we relief societies of a truth for the last linter found the poor su supplied by them to a appropriate mottoes were scattered in profusion throughout the procession an article borne by the pioneers attracted particular attention it was a miniature boat representing the one carried by them extensive bowery about 10 am here the usual ceremonies were gone through with good order and i harmony prevailing throughout after listening to martial music song songy by the choir and prayer by the daniels and several others addresses were read by some of the ladies on be halfon half of the mothers of israel and the daughters of zion the meeting was dismissed at half past 12 for dinner and met again under the bowery at 2 pm where a grand dance was held in which all classes of the people participated the children met at the same hour in the tithing house where they enjoyed themselves in the same recreation in the evening our hall was crowded with merry mor mons who met to again dance before the lord and to praise him for his great kindness in leading us to these sequestered vales where music by the band A little after noon a large assembly met in the meet ing house where a concert was given by the bountiful choir preceded by some remarks from bishop stoker the choir sang a choice rai ral appropriate vast t mst ast were sv r A dance which commenced in the evening iii in the upper schoolroom school room closed the celebia celebration tion at which all enjoyed themselves very much reported by a citizen OGDEN at break of day the flag of our country was floating in the breeze and a discharge of cannon inaugurated the ahe celebration of the day business was suspended throughout our city and at 11 am a very large concourse of aldand young oung assembled in tho the tabernacle to kean kear hear addresses from our prominent citizens the congregation was called to order by bishop chauncey IV west and prayer offered onne ofle red by elder D ir stewart stew art the speakers were pres lorin farn farr elder lester J herrich herrick judge aaron F farr and elder D at if L stewart their words were full of encouragement to the people inviting them to a continued development of their agricultural and manufacturing interests and increasing gratefulness to the all wise disposer of events that his nis people were guided by his servants into these mountain fastnesses fast nesses then wild and barren but now to a great extent teeming with fruitfulness remarks were then made by bishop west followed by the reading of toasts applicable to the occasion the meeting was then resolved into a convention to select candidates for offices at the next annual election for the
