Show FATAL A ACCIDENT DENT OBITUARY john mills woolley departed dep arted arteA this life at 2 on thursday afternoon we regret having to record the thi unfortunate circumstances st connected with the death of so 90 wort worthy by a citizen the following account of the accident has been furnished ua us by br isaac groo I 1 on the imbt while A hile bile bishop john al woolley y in company with several of bib big NV worl wort OILmen men was examining a bridge at the foot of one ohe oi of the run gayb in little cotton wood kanyon some of the men on the moun tain above rolled a lar iare large lare e log on the slide siide which ame came down bilth alarming velocity to tie place where abere he be was standing and striking a pile of loose rock at the base of the slide scat scattered tere tero them before it in evry every direction with great force one of which truck br woolley on the side of or the neck and face him earth in a state 0 of insensibility I 1 he w was s immediately carried to bis house at the mill where medical and ever every other assistance was offered to td restore him to consciousness and to life but without the de desired ired fred effect he lingered till thursday the irth between 2 and 3 in the afternoon when death kindly and calmly came to his big relief and released his big generous spirit and took from ua us one of our moet meet esteemed and useful citizens hla hia body was brought to his reer reel residence reb res dence in this city on the morning of the letb and at 4 pm of the same day his funeral was attended att end ene ed by a very large assem arsem llly illy lily of relatives and friends anxious to condole with his afflicted family and to pay him hat ahat tribute of respect honor and esteem that thit be he eo 80 justly merited by a lite life of devotion to god and hla bia ea gause use and bs hs unyielding perseverance in striving to 0 o promote among his bis fellow inan min ery evy arit ciple cinie of ot virtue truth from what we we have aye been able to learna learns learn the atone stone which struck br woolley on the ht head ad or under the ear broke his bia right jaw and caused a severe concussion of the brain wealch in in I 1 all probability produced hemorrhage another stone struck him on the hip or thigh causing in a bad braize though he lived about fifty hours after the accident he never spoke or made any reliable 91 sin sign 11 n of consciousness he was born in new lynn chester chister county pennsylvania on the of nov 1822 was baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints on the ath of oct 1840 ordained an elder in nauvoo at the april conference in 1812 started on a mission may of the same year and returned in feb the year following and in april was ordained into the fourth quorum of seventies by the counsel of euer kimball he started in june on another mission the former was to the st states ates 0 of tennessee and kentucky the latter to the eastern states returned to nauvoo in nov 1844 worked on the temple tempie tem V ae through the winter and following spring came west at the time tince of the general exodus from nauvoo and arrived in this valley in 1847 he was counselor selorio to bishop taft of the ath ward from oct 1852 to oct 1856 when at the semiannual conference he was appointed brother tafts tats successor in the bishoprick this office he magnified to the day of his death deaths being ready at every call prompt and energetic in carrying out the measures of his superiors in the priesthood ile he was a man whose mind was wag richy richly stored with the good things of the kingdom of our dur god brilliant in thought and ana alick to perceive the revelations ani and whisperings of the holy spirit he has left a large family to mourn his present loss |
