grain perhaps some who in salt lake county may think differently in my opinion this is one of the beat in the territory for raising grain and I 1 like to see the brethren bringing out th waters of weber river it will require good deal of labor but it does not money and it if you do not get the around the sand ridge the first year you not be discouraged but continue the labor a you may be able butil the dirch ditch is made enough and long enough and sufficiently tigh tight by a deposit ol 01 or 01 ly by yu dAlins convey all the water that may be required think it can be brought around the sand without a great deal of extra labor or expense you have the finest climate there is any aily whereon wherein where in these mountains therefore be cou raged and take the advice so often to prepare for the day of want it if we will b faithful to our covenants we may be sur sure that the lord will give us seed time and vest and we will not suffer famine unless w forsake the priesthood of the lord our god remarks are frequently made in regard the sufferings Buffe rings ot of the saints we do not so much as do the world they are scantly in torment it is very unwise to away from the lord to get rid of sorrow such persons can not BO so full fuli rully fully Y enjoys enjoy the ings of life they will have many bicke ic kering 11 which do not bring happiness or peace want to enjoy the privilege of meeting with you jou brethren sisters I 1 am for one aa As we have now be gan visiting the settlements this being arst first of a number of appointments of twelve to visit with the saints and speak them to cheer and comfort them I 1 trust our coming together seeing hearing bearing and as one with the other will be to us all this decline was given oat for the twelve and 1 I expect they will take charge of it conduct it brother kimbail kimba 1 l and myself come here and expect to go to other with the twelve to speak the things that in our hearts first of all it is the of god in our hearts it ia is the kingdom god or nothing the almighty has commenced ills his work of sending forth llis ills from the heavens and revea revealing fin his will crave ave aye us joseph and others and bestowed holy priesthood upon his servants we wo sharers in the gifts and graces that god bestowed upon hla his hia people I 1 tha iha dia dja is laa iga a day days lays and a time of timea limea this ia is the of f times thres in which all thin thid things that are in are to be gathered in one this is a momentous period abid aid ald we feel an earll earnestness estness to the in rol mol ands ads of those who profess to beiles belies e jesus in joseph ami and in the th latter day work to compre comprehend liend the great dutes duties of or life by spirit of the lord that they may nay be one heart one in sentiment and thereby be ona one jn action that we rny may behold the of god which is my besre and the at olt my m y brethren at the tha priesthood meeting in the evening after hearing bearing the reports from fro in the several of IV abe r county the president ra I 1 C bwy ay that I 1 am iad oad lad that I 1 an am here for tor or ittis ius mecis gives S ivo me nio a nathla nathia understanding of the organization of thid bia bis hla county I 1 am satisfied with this method of an far aa as the is concerned 1 it relieves ua us from a great deal of business baine as at the general tithing office we hav hai e adlo adapted ted the same plan in other places in cache valleys valley vailey tor for in stance and shall probably do BO so in acme others in this county the brethren who pre side over the various districts distri ets report to br vest west and be he transacts business bu einess for this coun i ty with the general mithu g office I 1 think the report given in this thia evening relating to the present situation of the people here bee be hee e is a vary very good one and arid that the people as a general thing are doing very well I 1 should feel still more gratified if we were furth tr advanced I 1 feel that the people should abound keep up with the spirit of the times timea so that the lord will not pass by them I 1 desire that we ire may be faithful and be prepared for the things that are coming upon the earth I 1 csire that we be prepared for the blessings blev blea ains which the lord has to bestow upon us u ile he ia lit blessin blessing ilia his people and we shall soon see zion redeemed emed and israel gathered from among all nations I 1 would ilfe lite like ilke the litter latter day da saints to be ready read yand and to make the themselves aselve r ready ea d y they hey must live their religion that they may enjoy the spirit of the holy one of israel our experience teaches us that some soine dont take fake this course they will follow some person or something apart from the true and living god their minds minas become BO so dark that they cannot bee aee the true ric nobes heit beir if any of you feel that there la a no life in your meetings as I 1 bm bleat some borne ot of tithe brethren say then it becomes your jour dut tog to go ani and an d life into that meeting and do lour bour 5 our oud part to produce an increase ot of the spirit and pa power rower wet of god in the meetings in your lo 10 callay it there is a fast meeting or meeting why not somebody in that district go e filled w with ith the spirit and power of godana dg e to encourager instruct comfort and saints I 1 have been an E bider eider der in this e church for year years and I 1 have been accustom ed to teach every man and woman the duties i enjoined upon them by the law of christ christi christy and r when there was not a good spirit in a meet ing I 1 have endeavored to one ana and dle die i not ask for any permission to do BO so I 1 want r the elders to be filled with the spirit of teach ing and I 1 vant want each and every one of us to sc so i live as to obtain our share of it and to have e the influence of the spirit of the lord to dice tate us if these my brethren will live and act according to the priesthood that is upon them the lord will be satisfied J and BO so ur will his servants most of vou you my brethren are elders seva entis enties or hh high priests perhaps there is no 0 a priest or teacher present the reason oi of s i this is that when we give the brethren their endowments we ere are to confer upon them the melchised c priesthood but I 1 exe hect to see the day when we shall te be so siu s abed that we can say to a company of breth y ren you can call eo go and recen receive ethe the ordinances pert taming to the c order of priesthood y and then you can go into the world and jand the gospel or do something that w I 1 prove whether you will honor that priesthood before e apu receive more now we pass them t through the ordinances ordin ances ancis of both priest hoods in one day but this is not as it should be and B would it if we had a temple wherein to adminis s ter these ordinances but bat this is its au right at i present we vre shou shoud d not be satisfied in any e other way and consequently consequent we do accord ng to the circumstances we are placed in the i brethren receive their endowments and you know there are some persons persona mho who will not e apostatize till they arrive at a certain point some apostatize at the missouri river ard aad andali al though they may be ever so angry they will come here to get prepared to leave us atad and others wi I 1 live here a score of years a and i nd then apostatize and it does appear as all if it some men were determined to prove that they arg are i fools f we have had trouble with men icho refused to pay their tit tithing hing bing but the time has now c come ome when a man that will not pay his hia tithing is not fit to be lathe in the church the time has come when those who p odess to be saints must live according to the lansol the holy priesthood or they cannot enjoy its betie benefi bbs bbb fis s may the lord bless you all and help you to be is my prayer amen on sunday afternoon the President instructed the congregation as follows I 1 cannot qt talk taik as loud now as I 1 have been accustomed to speak without it hurtin me m e A great many ot of the saints inow know that I 1 chave hav e preached long and loud for over thirty two years and that I 1 have labored incessantly to spread the truth lruth and have ur urged ed mankind te to receive the P principles 0 of f ebern eternal 9 life which we have embraced ced andio obey their lives jives in the early par pant part tot bof of my ministry my preaching in g was loud quite a portion of my labora labors ha have haie e seemed to require me to speak with a loud voice I 1 have haie had largo congregations before me most of the time since bince I 1 began to preach and I 1 have labored in this way until my toy 1 lunga I and will not endure it I 1 could ater preach reach myself sick lut lui ut iut the question is had I 1 better do it I 1 think I 1 would rather tarry in intha the midst of the saints to minister to and anti teach them and strive to tarry here just jast aa as long as I 1 can in iii preference to lying down to rest froimy from my labors itam iam lam seif self determined 1 I suppose many would call it belf self w lle ile dand perhaps sia correct eor cor but I 1 will say my disposition dm position is to tarry here darkas this world ia Is and wicked as the Inhabitant inhabitants sot of the earb earlb earh are my disposition is never to cease fighting until thedell the devil is bound and there ia Is a complete g end of wickedness on this earth until the saints can worship god without interruption flesh fleets and therefore there foro fora I 1 aou would rather atay stay in 14 the wb have hare av esad had bad gool durl duri rd this thiu meeting eating m nim from all who have addressed us br kimball was wag full of jire ilfe life abd and bles blessings eings tor for the saints and this atter after nor noc n br taylor taylon has given y yon 0 an excellent discourse full of wisdom and intelligence i t e gence genco and I 1 nope that all alt will profit by what has been to them brother kimball and myself ara traveling with the twelve we av are holded holding two days meetings in the different north and south and we expect to he bb absent from great salt lake lilie city every diller sunday for the next eight or ten ton weeks I 1 S I 1 can tell you the spirit of the twelve i which will be a consolation to you and also i 1 to the twelve it if I 1 could see every one of 0 the elders with their wives and children aa as obi a adient to every requirement made of them ae slie children to ine tue parents the wives to the husbands and the husbands to the priest priesthood bood hood aa as the twelve are toy soul woud would be happy I 1 will bay eay further those of the twelve that travel the jostand most and serve godare the mot most obe i dieni some of the elders get up and tell you that you must ba be obedient to the ehe counsel that is given you which is all right but I 1 wish the people could know my feelings in regard to this I 1 have never asked but bust one thing of the latter day saints and that isfort is for them hem to serve the lord our god with an undivided heart one says 1 I know br joseph but I 1 do noi nol not know much about br brigham Brig ham bam I 1 do not dot care for this the question with me is this dodou do you yon know jesus and the holy spirit I 1 do not care it if j ou never hear bear any more about br i brigham BO so far aa as my personal feelings are concerned it you wull will only live under the ini fluence of c that spirit which comes cornea from god i when the brethren are traveling trat eling ard aid ai ard d preaching abey nave the spirit ot of obedience and wh while e we are here preaching to yow tow the spirit of the lord broods over the congregation your youl countenances are lit up with heavenly intelligence your hearts are arc one and you are ready to observe every word of counsel that is given to you and each and every one feels to say youn ait it is my y delight to do the will of god when we frere were children in thib this church had bad just received the spirit of the holy gospel how did we feel teel Ws felt and we were aa as submissive as little iMren chimpen ch ready to do the will and bidding of the elders just as fast aa an we learned it we were as obedient to who vrho were set to counsel us as the child is to its ita mother we bad had no disposition di position to rebel 0 but our feeling way wai let me know the will of god and I 1 will do it lt was wai money in the way no the latter day saints have pre ty well proven that money and property do not stand in their way neither parents parente houses or ianda landa I 1 I 1 husbands wives or chi dren and ip I 1 presume I 1 tha that I 1 could find a number ot of bisera here today lda ida y who wh have left felt their husbands and alid children dr en r fourth for the le gospels sake and I 1 could select men who have left wife children arid and all for the gospels sake the people called latter day saints are generally speaking obedient ad aud if they continue to strive to live their religion they will become of one heart and one mind we have bare the kingdom of god here bere spiritually and by and bye we will be prepared to receive it te temporally in borally po rally ralis the L lond lord ord ond d designs e that we shall have that we do not want it now for we are not prepared we could not bear it but in the lords own time we bhail shall have these things we are exhorted to gather around us the com eo morts sorts lorts of life to build good houses hie tit uses make good gardens and strive to attain to every comfort there is on
