Six Million Dollar Donation? Dear Editor: Thanks to Councilwoman Colleen Jacobson for relieving our worries of how the city (citizens) will pay to fulfill all the promises she, Jan Tanner and Max Roberts promised the youth of our community for recreational facilities. How ever, the six million donation (Chronicle April 3 Council member Colleen's letter to the editor) is not money the city has received. In fact, this generous no strings attached donations will come from property Payson City purchased from the donor, and does ha e "strings tied on to it. In time the donor will buy this 550 acres of land back from the city and then as promised donate it to Payson. The donor will pay back the bond the city took out to purchase the land over a period of 3 years and then hold on to this property a ear and a day before he can donate it back to the city. Sound complex? Simply stated, contrary to Jacobson's claim as of now' there is no six million dollar donation. Payson Downs Dear Editor: The City Council members that were fighting so hard for the 8,h South road have had a change of heart, and it makes you wonder why. When they turned down Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Taj lor offer, they put on a campaign to attack the gift by attacking the giver. Now that they ha e tom oul the track for the benefit of the road, they are having second thoughts on the road. If you went to the council meeting on April 14,h, you would know' that Dr. Taylor tried to work with the council and city to bring about a compromise that would be beneficial to all. The Mayor expressed his concerns that we would all regret these actions at some point in the future. I agree, and regret it already. The road has been tied to the necessity of the ball fields, and any other new recreation, and there is still no way that anyone can buy that concept! You have your compromise; the arena and horse stalls are still there with a new training track. Now for some reason the road doesnt seem to be such a DONE DEAL. Let's make this a permanent NO! TO THE ROAD AND KEEP THIS A PERMANENT RECREATION AREA WITHOUT THE ROAD! in other cities. In Beaver the racetrack has a golf Equestrian parks and ball fields course running through the middle of it. In Fillmore all the recreational facilities are beautifully. This is such a beautiful location for all kinds of recreational activities with the mountains as a backdrop and a large beautiful green space. Lets all work together to keep it that way. Now is the time for you to speak up and make your feelings known. Just say, No we dont want that road going through this recreation property! I would like to express mj appreciation to Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Taylor, Mayor Bemell Evans, Councilmcn Burtis Bills and Brad Daley for their efforts in trying to save the racetrack. I would like to acknow ledge that the other three council members have taken a lot of flack and criticism for what they have thought they were doing for the benefit of the majority of the community, but they need to listen more to you. and you need to speak up and not be blindly led into the destruction of the things that make Payson the great place that it is to live and raise our families. You cant please everyone, we all know' that, but it is time to put all personal feelings aside and w'ork together for the sake of this town and its future. This road does need to go back to the planning board, and my hope is that it will never be put through this property. The citj council can only serve your needs if you make them known. We would all support more ball fields and pools if wre knew what the real issues were. The best way to find out is to attend the City Council meetings and know for yourself. Many mistakes have been made in this issue, and a town has been tom apart, needlessly. We will heal only if we cooperate with our city government and find constructive ways to fulfill all our needs for Paysons past as well as its future Dona L.
