Show The Payson Chronicle, April 30, 1997, Page 10 Jamie Tervort Graduates Payson High School News The students and staff at Payson High School extend thanks to Payson City for their donation of blood for the Cherie Hunt Blood Drive to be held May 6 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the school gym. Any interested parent or member of the community is encouraged and invited to give blood on that day. Mrs. Hunt is currently a teacher at Payson High School and this blood drive will be done on her behalf. awards evening will be held on AWARDS EVENING!! Ricks With High Honors From Tervort Kathleen Jamie graduated Ricks College on April 26, 997, receiving her Associates Degree in Elementary Education. Graduating with High Honors, Jamie was a nominee for the Prestigious Sport Scholar Award. The nominees received recognition for their academic achievement and were awarded scholarships at the Sport Scholar Banquet following graduation exercises. Jamie was also chosen to speak at graduation for the convocation exercises of the Division of Education. She was awarded a scholarship to Brigham Young University where she will ar m m High School Track Team Improves PaysonWilson from 1 continue her learning in the field of ' by Ryan TTiis past week, the Payson High Track Team picked up the pace. Track teams from Delta and North Sanpete participated in the Payson High event. Although Payson gave a valiant effort, the overall scores were not in Paysons favor. However, many individuals on the team broke their (PB) or their Personal Best In the Boys 800 meter, Glen Thomass time was 2.12.69. Glen also flew around the track in the 2 mile with a speedy time of 11.26.51. Glen placed 2nd in both races. In the 400 meter, Ryan Wilson placed 4th with a time of 55.74. In the Girls 800 meters, Jenny Bott clocked in at 2.51.56 for 4th place. Brittany Lindstrom ran the 100 meter hurdles and clocked in at 15.53. She also ran the 400 meter for a 2nd place time of 1 .01 .47. In the 200 meter, Megan Oldham raced in for a 2nd place time of 28.20. In Field Events, Payson placed well. Throwing Girls Discus, Cheyenne Palmer and Shari Raff placed 3rd and 4th. In Shotputt, Shari also placed a 4th. In the Long Jump, Brittany Lindstrom rocketed to 1st, Megan Oldham took 3rd, and Kamie Jo Massey took 4th. In Girls High Jump, Payson took 1 st, 2nd, and 3rd. Beth Webster leaped to 1 st, Kami Jo Massey to 2nd, and Shari Raff to 3rd. All beat out the competition. In Boys Events, High Jumpers, Cody Bishop placed 2nd and Brittan Holt finished 4th. The Payson Track Team is off to a great season and would like to invite anyone and everyone to come out to the Track Meets. It is fun and free! Elementary Education. Jamie is the daughter of David and Kathy Tervort of Elk Ridge. She is the granddaughter of Glen and Nona Tervort of Payson, and Wesley and DeReta Matthews of Northridge, California. Dates Slated For Upcoming Soccer Season All girls interested in playing Soccer for Payson High School this fall need to be aware Members of the Beta Cultus Club met at the City Center on the 8th of April. President Mable Montague conducted the meeting. Pledge to the flag was led by Ella Porter. The Club Collect was read by Crystal Reynolds. Elizabeth Huish gave the Legislative Report. Orem Mayor Stella Walsh and Administrator Phil Goodrich were the speakers, with Vera Nielsen as moderator. This was a question and answer program. Questions were answered on taxes, stating that taxes of every kind help the cities and counties to run. Cities must have a balanced budget to maintain the city. This is something they must do but the government never does. Karen Thorn of the State Legislative Council spoke about the bills the last Legislature passed. The annual Easter project of 60 baskets of goodies were taken to the Robbins Homes and the Beehive Homes on the 28th of March. The Payson High School Drama Department presented the program, with four students giving readings. Coach Theobalds, 668 East 770 South - Local Soccer Camp, 7 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for any girls interested. Grades June ($10); PHS Soccer Field June 30 through July 4 - Summer Camp, SUU, $175 July 7 through August 1 - Conditioning for any girls interested in trying out for Fall Soccer, PHS Track, 6:00 a.m. August 4 - Tryouts for the Fall Season, PHS Soccer Field, 6:30 a.m. Soccer Summer Camp is held in Cedar City at the University. Fees include housing, and treats. More information will be given at meeting food, travel, movie, dance, on June 5. All girls interested in playing soccer are encouraged to participate in the activities as preparation for the fall season. Livestock Show Benjamin Held April 26 4-- H The Benjamin Livestock Club held its annual show on Saturday, April 26, 1997. It was a fun time for all. The winners were all the participants receiving brushes, buckets, pans, etc. to help care for their animals. The livestock winners are as follows: Grand Champion Hog, Helen Young; Reserve Champion Hog, Chase Russell; Grand Champion Lamb, Chase Russell; Reserve Champion Lamb, Cory Galloway; Grand Champion Steer, Lindsey Andrews; Reserve Champion Steer, Trent Anderson. The Volunteer Family of the Year was the Rex Galloway Family. Bernice (Bea) Woffinden was honored for 50 years of service in the program, being one of the Benjamin stockshows founding members. 4-- H Gladstan Ladies Golf Gearing Up For Another Great Year The another ofThe Gladstan Ladies Golf Club is geuing geared up for great year. ficers met April 3 at the home of President Nina Carter, Payson, to make plans for the summer of 1997. The opening social will be held at Gladstan Golf Course on May 6, beginning at 9:00 a.m. There will be a Scramble followed by a Luncheon. The Play of the Day for the month of May will be as follows: May 6, Scramble; May 13, Black Marks; May 20, Throw Out 3 Worst Holes; May 27, Guess Your Score. and Everyone interested in playing golf is invited, from beginners to old-time- rs BETA CULTUS CLUB NEWS Beta Cultus Club members met on the 22nd of April at the Bella Via for the closing social. President Mable Montague welcomed members, and guests Clo Orr, Leona Olsen, Karen Church, Sandra Kirk, Phyliss Taylor, and little Taylor Kirk. Mrs. Kirk, Mrs. Olsen and Mrs. Church entertained club members, singing songs from the 1920s to the 1950s. Members enjoyed this very delightful trio. Blessing on the food was given by Reba Olsen. The Thought for the Day was read by Zoa Taylor. After the delicious dinner. President Montague thanked all the members for their cooperation during the last year. She also thanked the Social Committee for arranging the dinner.
