Show The Payson Chronicle. April 30, 1997, Page 2 Denises Doodles The w e. Only, we didnt bring binoculars. Come to think of it, it seems like Hoey may have been hoping to befriend the man and instrument. He sure had his eyes on them. It would have been hopehis less, however, I doubt you could have bribed the guy with a poster of the Bay watch "babes" and made him share. He was a bona fide real life watching kind of guy, if you know what I mean. I His wife didnt seem to mind this deeply absorbed curiosity in the between-showof threat me mind off the to plummetdidnt either, he gave apparent something keep my ing to my death should the "We Will Rock You" song have come on and the audiences stomping become violent enough to rock me off the high wire I was balancing on with the assistance of a kraut dog and a drink. He entertained me well. If I had gotten his mailing address. Id have sent him Christmas cards each year from then on, "Thanks, Mister, you are a class act. If you are ever in Utah County, give me a call. Ill be sure and pull the window shades down real tight. Real tight. Happy Holidays!" The Jazz didnt win the big one that year and more than likely the Bulls will be champions right on schedule again this year. It is almost inevitable, theyre hoarding a lot of the best players. (Hey, it bums me out too but, I am sorry, this is a fact.) You know, what I cant understand is why the Bulls have not been pit against the number one basketball team of all time. If you want to make them lose, you have to go to the top. You must seek help from the team that makes ninnies of its adversaries, sends them with their sly The team that has been kicking basbawling for bah-baketball fanny in real life and in cartoons alike, the one and only Harlem Globetrotters. Its a logical remedy to the Bulls addiction to conquering. Everyone knows that there is no team alive with the ability to beat the Harlem Globetrotters. All you sports enthusiasts are reading this and thinking, "Duh, why didnt I think of that?" Right? It is time to put the needle to Sweet Georgia Brown, time to teach the Bulls a lesson. some of the Globetrotters star players, men, I would like to see Michael Jordan Meadowlark Lemon on the court. just try and out-w- it close-watchi- ng s. slick-sharp-quic- k. hs Un-reti- re b-b- all Chronicle Community Calendar by Denise Windley Its pretty cool to live in a state with a good NBA team, the Utah Jazz. Makes us Utahns feel like winners. I feel like a winner. Hope the Jazz win the big one. Hoey and I watched the Jazz in a playoff game in Salt Lake City a few years ago. We were seated high where only eagles dare to soar, and people too cheap to pay for decent seats. We were in what is called Section NB (Nose Bleed). We were so high up, the court from our birdseye-vieappeared to be a discarded Sugar Daddy on the lawn, covered with ants- - players scurrying around crazily as if being chased by sunlight beaming down cruelly hot from a magnifying glass. The most riveting point of the game, due to our situation, was a guy and his binoculars below me. His wife, to his right, used the binoculars when the Jazz played. He used them to watch the Jazz dancers. And did he snatch them in a hurry when his turn came up, he That was what he paid to see, apparently, and his grabbed for them nervously, weird-likbody jittered while he whined like a dog desperate for a drink, "Hurry up, hurry up!" to his mate as the girls began to shake and shimmy on the floor to the popular "rappy" tune of the hour. Wish I had a husband like that, I thought sarcastically, then realized, I do. Pbijn To placeyour event on the Community Calendar, send, drop off, phone or fax (465-922by noon on Monday . She reported that there were 281 people in attendance at the Festival dinner in March. Mark your calendars now for the Scottish Festival, Saturday, July 12. It will begin with breakfast in the Payson City Park at 7:30 a.m. with, among other things, a special recipe Scottish eggs. If you cant make it to breakfast, procession will start at 9:00 a.m. near First Security Bank, running south toward the park. Activities that day will include highland dancing, competitions, chanters, piping, drumming and ensemble. In the bandstand that day you will find Celtic music playing (vocally and instrumentally). At 12:00 p.m., an opening ceremony will take place at the east field of the park; at 4:00 p.m. in that same location, another ceremony will be held to announce the winners of competitions, and the bands will give final performances. Vendors from Missouri, Colorado, California, Arizona, Idaho, as well as Utah, are expected to be at this years Scottish Festival. Clans will be there, too, to help with research of family histories. According to Helen, the festival was organized in 1983 when High School band teacher, Jerry Chatwin approached the city council with the idea. Mr. Chatwin instructed a pipe band along with his marching band at the high school. The first Payson Scottish Festival was held in 1984. Don Lankford, who was serving as a city councilman at the time and who had taken the role of president of the Scottish Festival, contacted Helen to be a part of the first Festival committee. A later, Helen took over as president and has been so ever since. 7,000 to 8,000 people are expected to attend this year. pre-Scotti- then-Pays- year-and-a-h- sh 465-232- 3.
