It will be starting in November. The games will be on Tuesday nights at the junior high school. The season will be about 12 weeks long with a tournament with Spanish Fork and Springville at the end of the season. Ninth graders playing for football title Cost will be $10.00 a player. This will go towards paying the referees and to buy team balls. Teams will obtain their own sponsors to pay for jerseys. Darin, a senior, plays defensive nose guard and offensive right tackle. and weighs He is 64 180 lbs. The coaching staff selected Darin for this weeks game because of his defense. Payson leads the valley in passing defense and one of the main reasons is because of Darin. When he pass rushes and stretches up those long arms, its very difficult to throw2 over. Darin deflected passes and Intercepted another along with his 2 QB sacks. The Player of Draper leads the team in total yards having picked up 368 on 51 carries for an average of 7 while scoring 64 points. Justin Swenson has the highest average per carry (10.4) with 351 yards on 34 carries while scoring 42 points. And Jason Wilson has packed the ball 45 times for 313 yards for a 6.9 average. The team boasts a very capable quarterback in Brett White, who has hit 39 times on 52 attempts for 507 yards. One of his favorite receivers is Lynn Allred, who has caught 18 passes or 244 yards and has scored 22 points. Allred has also carried 7 times rushing, picking up 62 yards on the ground. Linebackers Jason Wilson and Brett Draper lead the team in tackles while the team has a very effective foursome on the downed line in Chad Hickman and Mike Pay at ends and Mike Campbell and Richard Durrant at tackles. The defensive secondary has intercepted ten passes this year and consists of Craig Alvey, Brett White, Steve Sames, Lynn Allred, and Justin Brad Mortenson, Swenson. We have a lot of speed on the team, notes Coach Hone, and we operate an offense based on the Houston Veer to take advantage of the fact that we have more than one good running back. team, coached by Craig Hone, record in Division 11 sports a of w hat is called the Cougar Conference, consisting of ninth grade teams feeding in to local high schools. The team has outscored oppowhile averaging 348 nents 210-3yards of total offense per game: 254 rushing, 94 passing. After opening the season with a more experienced Orem team and losing the Payson boys went on Pleasant Grove to beat Provo 28-Lehi 56-Springville 38-and Spanish Fork 48-Coach Hone credits much of the success of his team to an excellent coaching staff to go along with some obviously talented athletes. Three members of the Durrant family play important roles on that staff: Jim Durrant is the offensive coordinator, his son Tim is the defensive coordinator, and son Jim does the scouting. Mrs. Jensen took the honors away from her sister, Ev Brook, the 1982 champion. Mr. Herran, president of the mens association, beat defending champion Stewart Wilson. Rae Ann Page won the gross division of the A flight while Mrs. Brook won the net division. Jackie Johnson won the gross division in the B flight, with Rowene Wilson winning net honors. Blanche Wilson won the gross prize in the competition, while Shirley Theobold won the net. le Mrs. Brook also won putting honors for fewest putts among the golfers, while Mrs. Wilson carded the fewest number of putts for nine holes. In playoff competition, Mrs. Jensen beat the other three opponents to win the Presidents Trophy. In play, Colleen Mendenhall won the May leg while Alta Coombs won June; Shirley Theobold, July; and Harriett Mendenhall, August. Colleen Mendenhall then defeated the other leg Preswinners to win the idents Trophy. In the Mens Association, Errol Raven, who missed winning the Club Championship by only one stroke in a sudden death playoff, became the A flight winner. His son, Troy Raven, won the B flight. Larry Skinner will become the new Mens Association president.
