UTES OF MEETING s. 465-385- 1 afterS p.m. J16 PAYSON HOME, Ronal J. Crump City Recorder NOTICE POSTED IN PAYSON CITY OFFICE JULY 10, 1978. Published in the Pay-so- n Chronicle July 13, 1978. How does your garden grow ? Well, June is over. Those of you are lucky enought to have a June bearing strawberry patch should have had a bounteous harvest this year. The cool, wet May produced an abundance of strawberries. For those who do have one-crostrawberries, now is the time to cut back the plants to about four inches. Clip all the old leaves off. Leave the runners and new growth only. It is best to just allow two to four runners develop on each plant. The best way to keep a neat patch, is to place small, four-incplastic pots under the runners, dig a hole in the ground large enough for the pot. Place it under the first sprig of leaves on the runner nearest the plant. Cut the rest of the runner off. Leave the new growth attached to its parent plant and in the pot, held down with a bent wire. After four to six weeks you can cut the runner from its mother plant and in another ten days or so transplant the new plant where you want it in the patch. It is best to renew about a third of your patch each year. The older plants do not bear well after the third year, so by potting up your own starts you can entire your replace patch every three years. Also, you will have enough plants to start a new patch or to give to frinds. Talking about strawberries, have you seen the anecdote in the July TI1E PAYSON CHRONICLE Sr 5. Parsnips and carrots can be left in the ground and harvested throughout the winter months. Turnips should be dug when only 2 to 2Vi inches in diameter.
