Show nil nib from utah county s provo nov 23 1 ajr EDITOR editon Dr DESERET sERET NEWS SIR sin thinking that perhaps to some of the inhabitants I 1 of if the distant part of our territory a few words on the welfare and prosperity of this city would be e satisfactory I 1 cheerfully apply myself to io the pleasing task of penning a few items it is now a general time of good health with the citi citizens zeng although considerable sickness prevailed p retailed rev ailed previous to the commencement of cold coid weather the time of good weather was wag generally occupied to good advantage e by the inhabitants in drawing wood and makini making the necessary preparations for the comila coming winter the provisions for wintering stock ar are superior to any I 1 b have ave ive before seen in this city as nearly all are bountifully supplied with hay etc perhaps better supplied with the tho necess necee necessaries sarles saries kries aries of life for their animals than for themselves vesp vesy as our harvest has proved to be very light not yielding upon an average but bilt little more than mo ude hait halt as much as that of the previous yar year the ile improvements of the city in buildings hias s been very limited during the summer ga the supervisor p er visor though has expended a larg larga amount of labor in repairing and imp improving 1 the streets for the last few months mo the benefit of which ia is now bein being realized a large amount of snow and rain levla having fallen during the last two weeks the people generally begin to manifest a greater desire to attend meetings for public worship both on sundays and duran during the week and evening meetings an evening school has been organized which will probably prove beneficial to many of our young men the school beino being being under the control of a very efficient teacher A inurn lyceum has also been commenced which seems seeing to 0 attract considerable attention from many and will no doubt prove a benefit A good and peaceable spirit seems to prevail 1 with the majority qi the citizens the provo dramatic association association commenced their performance for the season on the evening of the dinst which will be continued I 1 understand every saturday evening the society have been at considerable expense in fitting up and pre preparing aring scenery and will no doubt produce a fu fund td of profitable recreation ion lon and amusement we observed several of the old performers on the stage whose well known qualifications need no comment also several new ones who promise well the weather is at present very dull snowing occasion occasionally nally about two inches already lying upon the ground I 1 am informed by a person just from provo valley vailey that the snow is eighteen inches deep in that valley L |
