Show VOLUME XIV SALT LAKE COUNTY, Thursday, June 13, 1968 UTAH Outstanding Students Feted Outstanding Kearns High students were honored at their 2nd Annual Awards Assembly. Mr. Vern Heaton represented the Kearns Booster Club in presenting a victory bell to the studentbody. The bell is to be mounted on the roof and rung at each Kearns High victory. (Many are being planned for next year! Awards presented in the May assembly were as follows: National Guard scholarships - Scott Campbell -- welding, Robert Otterson - machine shop, Bruce Christensen - auto mechanics, Thomas Pace - electronics. Winner of the Voice of Democracy and National Sons of the American Revolution was Tom Chapman. Granite Education Association scholarship to Westminster, Ken Bagshaw. Brenda Oliverson, PTA, Sharon Taylor, Business Womens Association, Marcella Sanchez, National Association of Legal Secre- taries, Chauna Kimber, Dav- id Gourley, Sharon Taylor, Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award. Elks scholarships went to Larry Statham. Suzan Hornok, and Brenda Oliverson. American Legion Essay Contest was taken by Lorraine Fulton - 1st place, and Rayleen Griffith - 2nd Jack Senninger and place. Kim Barrett received scholarships to Weber State. College of Eastern Utah awarded scholarships to Tony Ger-vo- l, DaveBizek, FrankCross, Curt Crowther, Steve and James Humphrey. Lynette Garner received Honors at Entrance at College Recipients of service awards for outstanding service in their particular manner were: Colleen Allred, leen Allred. JoLene Blockovich also received a scholrs arship from Steven College. Marble Tournament To Start from Westminster College are Lola Williams, Cynthia Phelps, Aria Stewart, Linda Stewart, Kathleen Timothey, Linda James, Chauna Kimber, Merla Hutchinson, Gail Curry, and Shauna Christensen. Other colleges were Angela Bevan - Ricks, Terry Morrlss - ColoradoStateCol-leg- e, Sherry Dee Johnson and Jody Motis - Hollywood Beauty College, and Gay Lynn Stevens - L.D.S. Business College. A p.m. Childrens Parade at 5:30 on Thursday August 1, will kick off Home TownDays. It will line up in the area of the Catholic Church on 5215 South and proceed to the Junior High School. At the Junior High, the K earns Jaycees will serve free to the parade participants. Sponsors of the Childrens Parade will be the VFW Auxiliary and Ladles Civic Club. A Pet Show, sponsored by the Kearns Jaycee-ette- s, will highlight the evening of Friday, August 2, at 5:30 p.m. sno-con- es Numerous prizes and awards will be given for pets in all according to categories, President Marilyn George. A Water Show is tentatively scheduled also for August 2 at the Kearns Swimming Pool. The annual big Kearns Home Town Days Parade is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, at 10 a.m. down Main St. - - line up location to be announced . Floats will be invited to enter from all communities in Salt Lake Valley. The Proud of Kearns Committee is seeking a Chairman for the parade which carries heavy though rewarding re- sponsibilities. Home Town Days will end with a dance on the evening of August 3. Mrs. Sanborn announces that facilities of St. Francis Xavier Recreation Hall are being sought. Ken Karen Coon Williams, Tim Woodbrey. Mr. Pete Bouchard and Mrs. Jeviene Christopulos spoke in behalf of the faculty members who are leaving Kearns High next year. Golden Garter Theatre Opens The grand and gala opening of the Golden Garter Theatre in West Yellowstone, Montana, will be June 15. Fun For The Whole Family is the key to the presentations at the theatre and the producers promise that the bill of fare wll be suitable for the children as well as the adults. Shows will be played seven nights a week through Labor Day. Michael P. Price and Roy M. Rogosin, formerly the producer and musical director respectively of the Valley Music Hall are now the producers of the Golden Garter A Kearns Home Town Days Schedule Set An interesting and exciting schedule of events is planned for Kearns Home TownDays, according to President Jo Sanborn of the sponsoring Proud of Kearns Committee. Dates are set for August 1, 2, and 3. Carolyn Duce of Provo who has just completed the season of musicals at the Valley Music Theatre in Houston, Texas, will join the compnay as a featured performer. A graduate of the University ofUtah, Carolyn will be remembered for her role as Zaneta in the Music Hall production of The Music Man. Debbie Bingham, Chosen As Editor Chosen as Editor for the Kearns High yearbook, next year is Debbie Bingham. This "Kearnada", 5 girl, standing feet 7 inches with blue eyes and blonde hair, has a 4.0 grade point average and enjoys sewing and all kinds of sports. Chosen because of her excellent achievement and willingness to serve, Debbie hopes to turn out a yearbook that the students will like and that will present the best picture of Kearns High in 1969. Besides being involved with the yearbook staff, Debbie was busy with Pep Club, Junior Choir, and presiding as seminary class vice president. She was also awarded a $100 scholarship at the University of Utah for the summer at the Awards Assembly. Other members of the new staff are: Janet Bigler - Layout Editor; Ken Jarrell- - Business Editor; Robyn Gcugh, Shirley Anderton, Ourrell Kerrie Dibb, Garner, Pat Brown, Kathi Pleshe, Sherry Beth Davidson, John Sorenson, Delores Jensen, Jolley, Rickie Barker, Didi Huff, Henry Brito, Kathy Brady and Donell Munson. The Queen sponsored Contest sung was by the Magna Inde- pendence Committee, comof the posed Magna Firemen and American Legion who awarded trophies to the winners. A scholarship gift to the college of her choice was awarded to Miss Coon from the Oquirrh Fund. Miss Copper works as a secretary at Sperry Univac. She aspires to be a model. Miss Gold plans to continue teaching dance and would like to take ballet classes at the University of Utah. Miss Silver has finished her freshman year at Weber College where she is studying physical education with the goal of becoming a teacher. Pretty April Malmborg was three lovely girls picked by the judges to reign over Magnas 4th of July celebration. She is Miss Gold. Karen Coon was chosen in first place as Miss Copper, with the title of Miss Silver going to Leslie Barlow. one of the on and will perform in at least two of the productions. Bluth will be remembered for his many roles at the Valley Music Hall, but is most noted for his portrayal of Brigham Young in the production of Promised in Valley Salt Lakes Temple View Theatre during the summer of 1967. A brunette with dark eyes, Leslie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Barlow, Magna.
