His clothes remind us of the three swashbuckling muskateers along with his hat. We learn he is a Flemish painter, bom in Antwerp, Belgium, June 29, in the year 1577. The son of Johannes Rubens, a druggist and councillor. Early in Peter Pauls life his father left Antwerp to On live in Siegen, Westphalia, Germany. The flemish language is spoken in a number of Belgian provinces, portions of Holland and France, and several countries adjacent to h, and differs these. It is a form of low German, or slightly from the German in pronunciation, and orthography. Family problems arose and after the death or Rubens father he left Seigen, Germany, with his mother, Marie Pypelinex. He was only ten years old when they returned to Antwerp, He studied art at the Jesuit college and became a page to Countess Lalaing. When he was 23 years old he went to Italy to study and practice his art, while there he became court painter to the Duke of Mantua. When he returned to Antwerp sometime after he reached the age of 32 when he married his first wife, Isabella Brant. She died in 1626 Peter Paul was 49 years old. His second period of travelling took him to Paris, and Holland, where he served as a diplomat in Madrid and London. He was knighted by Englands King Chrarles 1st in 1630, at the age of 53. In 1630 back in the Netherlands he married his second wife, Helen Fourment. During the last ten years of his life he developed a wide activity He became the typical artist of his epoch and the most in Antwerp. admired master, the man chosen for great state undertakings in art as well as in diplomacy.
