Show - THE VALLEY.VTEW NEWS Thursday, July 1& 1963 CHIT CHAT ABOUT GRANGERITES Kenneth Williams Sumthins Cookin' By Jodie Bruse by T. R. Brown Years ago when I was a Vice President of the State Federation cf Labor, A. F. ofL., I had on several occasions assignments to try and find good and honest middle grounds for arbitration of jurisdictional disputes between the various construction crafts. The problems to solve were always complex. They were complex only because cne craft did not understand the problems of the other crafts, and each were so involved with their .own problems that they were not able to spend the time to make a study of the other fellows problems. The lack of interest of individuals and most groups, union, fraternal, etc., made me feel that with a Jot of research and whole-hearte- d etudy one could compile this information in the form of a book and herein each, individual, group, etc., could find what the real problems are in all other fields that goes to make up all the crafts, trades, that goes to make up the great complexes of Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and their families. They individually and collectively, of course, produce all the good, bad, and middle grade of the thousands cf articles that we use in our daily lives and in this so called making a living. After studying and some research the task proved so great that even e would not be enough a time to compile such a monumental amount of information. But I am still disturbed by how little we do or try to understand the other fellows problems. I have on different occasions written about the teachers and their problems. But even the parents do not give it any extensive thought about what is involved in the complexities that are involved in teaching their children. The wholeheartedly wish for good, capable, kind and understanding persons that will understand their children and prove their qualifications in that the childs report card shows good progress and in general that all is well. The teachers, however, know little about the railroader or his troubles, yet a government decision could be made for or against him and in either case every citizen in every, state would be affected. The textile worker somewhere is involved in every piece of flexible material we use. Yet who cares or wonders much about his or her problem, and they have many. If we are to remain the number one industrial power of the world even for a few years hence we each should be very interested and make it our business to know what goes on with the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker. Our pioneers were all kinds of people who settled all kinds of problems because all was necessary of a common interest. Whatever affected one affected all. Their successes are history and if the immediate past is any barometer it would be well for us to plan a little more thoroughly for our future. There is an old saying .about hanging together or there is a good chance we might hang separately. Hi! classy classmates! Hows the summer been treating you? Everyone, just everyone!
