Show Thursday, October 19, 1961 Page 3 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Area PTA News Local elementary schools this week announced their plans for PTA membership drives to begin October 16-2Talents have been put to the test to come up with new and interesting theme and gimmicks to promote interest in the drives. This portion of the drive is most important to the youngsters as it makes them a part of the PTA, too. Parents, of course, need no urging to join the organization on behalf of their young offspring, as every parent realizes 0. that only by expressed1 interest in the school, its officers and teachers, and a genuine desire to help their children in school, can their youg-ster- s receive the most benefit from their schooling. Each of the schools has a different and enjoyable way of promoting response to the drives, as you can see in the following outline of schools. David Gourley AM Session Blastoff Time is 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, here for David Gourley PTA membership drive. Parents, here is your chance to add fuel to your childs rocket with membership in the PTA. A contest will be held between rooms and between groups of 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades, and 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades. Several of the groups will have satellites to launch and others will have rockets. According to Launch Director (membership chairman) Naoma Stewart, blastoff time is October 16 at noon when all the little Astronauts will take home their envelopes. Membership is 50 cents per person and the astronauts will have until Oct. 20 to return their envelopes to the school. The winning room will be awarded games to play during the cold weather and the winning group of grades will be entitled to see a film. 1 Parents are urged to remember the Quarters for Headquarters portion of the drive also. If each parent will add just 25 cents to his membership envelope, the cost of the new headquarters building for PTA will soon be paid up. David Gourley PM Session Watch the Birdies Hatch is the novel theme of the afternoon session PTA from David Gourley. A large nest is being placed in one of the display windows at school and will be filled with 20 eggs, each one representing 5 per cent of the possible membership. As each 5 per cent of the membership envelopes are returned with their PTA subscriptions, th eggs will be replaced with a yellow canary (paper, of course) until the eggs have all been hatched into pretty little birds. West Kearns membership chairman, Mrs. Lee Wensell, announced that their campaign will involve a house to house canvass to be conducted Oct. 16-2- The West Kearns PTA is sponsoring two movies at a fund-raisin- g project.
