Show Page 9 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Thursday, December 1, 1960 Pistol Club Doings Newest members of the Kearns Rifle and Pistol Club is Tony Padilla, one of the best pistol shots in the state.. Mr. Padilla will coach pistol teams in the club, which at present is organizing teams to enter competition. The club, which meets twice monthly, is holding its second meeting of the month at the Kearns Community Hall, due to a very large attendance at the meetings. This will be held the third Thursday of each month. Some very exceptional programs are being planned for these nights including educational movies and speakers such as the Agent of Pred-to- r and Rhodent Control from the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife. The third Thursday of December, the 15th, a potluck dinner and dance is being planned. Everyone is invited to come and join in the fun. Activity in the elementary schools is picking up momentum, with current interest running high over the elections of officers this month. The Oquirr Hills group, under te direction of Mrs. Catherine Christensen met Friday, Nov. 11. The material covered during the meeting stressed the importance of planting bulbs now in order to have flowers for Spring. The proper procedure of planting bulbs was also discussed. Officers for the coming year were elected. Bill Petuskey, Jr., was named president with Paula Rae Rebecca Jenkins, Wooley, secretary, and Donna Bosh, historian. The West Kearns group became acquainted with each other and their leader, Mrs. Virginia Jacobs, at their Friday afternoon meeting, Nov. 18. Dues were paid and officers were elected in addition to a discussion on bulb planting. Elected to serve for the coming year are Vicki Sue Reynolds, president; Karen Rolene Kelvin DufParker, fy, secretary, and Janette Payne, historian. The South Kearns Jr. Green Thumbers met Friday, Nov. 18, instead of the last Friday of the month because of Thanksgiving vacation. Dor-othe- vice-preside- nt; vice-preside- nt; Kearns Troops Hold Court of Awards Girl Scouts of Kearns were presented numerous badges and pins at a court of awards held Friday evening in the St Francis Parish Hall. This is the first court to be held in over a year. Presentation of awards were made to girls in Troop 75; the senior scout troop, under the direction of Mrs. Irene Masse. Troop 28, Suzanne Shrene, leader; Troop 76, Alta Boutwell, leader; Troop 211; Naomi Bawdene, leader; Troop 149, Shannon Simmons, leader; Troop 283, Jerry Ruof, leader; Troop 322, Lorraine Lund, leader; Troop 530, Betty Baxter, leader. -Mistress of the ceremonies for the evening was Vickie Eaton, one of our senior scouts. Pat Dallion gave the opening prayer. The flag ceremony was handled by two groups from Troop 28.
