Show Page 2 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Kearns JC to Acquaint Residents With Candidates Before Election In order to better qualify the citizens of Kearns as they vote on September 13 and again in November, the Kearns Jaycees, with Darr Harward as chairman of the project, have undertaken to bring as many candidates for public office as possible to Kearns to speak and to acquaint residents with their qualifications and political viewpoints. Laurel Brown, candidate for Secretary of State, spent the afternoon and evening in Kearns Wednesday, August 31, making personal contacts as well as being the speaker at a rally held at the Kearns Improvement District Patio. Mr. Brown discussed points of interest on things he feels are necessary to good government in his desire for becoming Secretary of State. He discussed the need for education, police protection, and gave his pointers on municipal government. Mr. Brown also stated that the people in county 'areas should take a great deal of interest in County Commissioners, as it is through them that people in these areas receive their government controls and aids. Also spending an afternoon and evening in Kearns on Friday, September 2, was Ira Huggins, Democratic candidate for Governor.
