I was working late at the office when I heard a commotion in the street outside. Our office it in the skid row part of town, so theres something always going on. But this incident was a trifle unusual, to say the least. A young woman was kicking up quite a fuss and a small crowd had gathered to? watch her shen-.'- ; n a n i g a n s. Every time someone wanted to take her in tow, shed ft square off and hit out with her fist. A few people tried to calm her down, but with no success. Finally, she sat down in the street and it looked as if she just wanted to be left alone. By this time, a rather large crowd had gathered and traffic was tied up for blocks in all directions. After watching this little fiasco for about five minutes, it suddenly dawned on me that perhaps I should call the police. Not being used to this sort of thing, I merely told them that there was a woman lying in the street and gave them the location. I should have told them that the lady in question was indeed handy with the fists. . Because, when the policeman arrived with his paddy wagon, he was no match for this veritable tigress. Every time he approached he, hed get a fist in the mouth. He tried three or four times to get her in the wagon, but he just want in her class. The crowd was enjoying it no end. I imagine another alert citizen called the police department again and told them of the predicament that one of their men wan in because in a short while another policeman came to the rescue. But, strange as it may seem, two policemen couldnt cope with this member of the fairer sex. I dont know where they got their training but for awhile it looked like it would be impossible for them to get this girl in the police wagon. They both finally got in back of her and lifted her bodily towards the paddy wagon. But when they got her up to it she would merely put her feet on the frame of the door.
