The Fastest Growing Community In Utah Serving Kearns, Granger, Hunter, Magna, Taylorsville Salt Lake County, Utah, Thursday, December Volume V ,. MtimKo 10, 1053 AC Kearns Kearns Can Although Kearns has been a growing community for some years the census report shows us that a large per cent of the population in the community have resided here under two years. This information reveals that Kearns is an attractive community to new families. And only 3.6 of the population have any plans to leave the area within the next year. Statistics show that more than half of the families earning less than $3,000 a year have been in Kearns for two years or less. The majority of upper income groups have lived in Kearns for three years or more. Census evaluation also shows thr Kearns outranks the national pe. centages for high school graduates in the field of education and, there is a percentage of college students. These are facts on things that we have in Kearns. Now the big evolving question is WHAT WE AN BE, what the people want and can make of a community out of these facts. This is the whole purpose of the immunity development program. Dr. W. Melvin Strong, director of adult education for the Granite school district, was guest speaker at the CD meeting held last Monday at the junior high school. In iiis address to the group attending the meeting, he very successfully brought out the point that citizens anywhere and in any community, t i i h '' v ,V 'V' ' A ', ?,f t r A who do not fully understand some V' , v '' ' , y .. problem or condition about them of lack the knowledge, through What once was the Minute Man Cafe, was destroyed last Saturday Two Kearns youths chalked up withdraw within themselves rather of origin. property damage to the amountwere than seek a full understanding of as week last they about $300 the situation. to pursued by county officers due He also demonstrated how perdriving a stolen car. sons interested in something are The two boys, each being only receptive to further knowledge 12 years of age, were first noticed along those lines. By the time the fire trucks had arrived the place was fully engulfed by flames. The fire was believed to have been started by children with matches or cigarettes. Extensive damage had been done to the vacated building by youths prior to the fire. There was an estimated $500 damage to the building and $300' damage to the contents of the biulding by the fire. The land having been zoned in that area for industrial purposes is owned by a Kearns improvement corporation, constituted by Mr. and Mrs. Raasch and lawyers of Bell & Bell. The establishment itself was a privately owned business, of which the owner abandoned the business. Since children had been warned to stay away from the building previous to the fire, their safety is at stake now if they still persist in playing around the building. Parents of neighboring children are warned to keep the children away from the structure as they may be injured by falling materials. - Jr. Gardeners Hold Meeting Jr. The David Garden Gourley Club will hold their monthly meeting Friday, Dec. 11, in the multipurpose room of the school at 3:30 p.m. Mrs. Alfred Braumberger will demonstrate how to make such Christmas decorations as mobile pieces on which to place Christmas cards, foil stars, popcorn and cran-berrstrings, lolly pop trees, and Christmas tree decorations from gords.
