| Show REMARKS by president DANIEL DAMEL 11 WE WELLS sept septa 1 I 1859 1559 REPORTED BY ily 0 D WATT brethren and sisters I 1 feel there Is a good spirit with ua us here today to day all is peace and we have had remarks from the president which have been very gratifying at least to me and I 1 presume they have nave been to you there is not a great deal to say may after hearing such a discourse I 1 feel a deep deap solemnity resting upon my feelings and a strong desire to tre treasure a sure up the words I 1 have heard and apty apply them in my daily walk and practice under these feelings I 1 would not be free to rise and speak at all at this time were yere it no not that the president has requested me to do so ile he wishes to hear others speak that he may jud j ude e of the state of their feelings the inducements for the saints to bo be fa faithful til are certainly very great there is no happiness no joy nothing worth living for outside the religion of jesus christ the principles of life and salvation or mormonism kp as it is now call cail called edby by many these thase principles embrace everything as our president h has as told us which is worth knowing or possessing 1 by means of our religion we may participate frez freely in in the great blessings which all the world worl are seeking but cannot find outside of this church and kingdom we nye may have a permanent joy a happiness that is unalloyed it is to our greatest advantage to be faithful in living our religion altho aitho we may have to suffer poverty and persecution which matters not so long as our faith fails not for as we vre pass along we feast upon a joy and a peace that the world cannot give nor take away to say nothing of the reward that lies at the end of the race every person feels well in the consciousness that they are living in that manner that is pleasing to our father and god if we live ac according cordin to the understanding we hate have of OC right the promise is that more light and truth will be imparted to us and in this way may we so go on unto perfection we have been told year after year how to conduct ourselves not to give way to temptation but lire live our religion faithfully to be honest in all our dealings with one another to be pure and seek in all our temporal economies as a people to be free and independent we hate have had our minds occasionally lit up tip with the idea of being independent and ana you know know the way to do this is 13 to encomb age domestic or home manufactures to supply our own wants some may say what is the u use ae of striving to do this so long iong aa as clothing is plenty and cheap 71 7 and hence neglect to raise theli thell gia fia zis ZIP cotton wool and hemp instead of pursuing this course it would be best for us now to improve the present time secure such things aa as we need and not abate a single particle in oer our efforts to produce for our own sustenance clothing and food that we may bo be free and independent in a day to come the lord may shut down the 0 gate ate and throw us upon or olar own resources then let us not be oft off our guard because a few loads of merchandize merchandise dize has been brought into our country the tha lord has no doubt permitted this to supply the present necessities necess itlen of the people but will he continue to supply them in this wa way or will there be a scarcity of such things ya that t now are plentiful there will be a scarcity as brother kimball haa said I 1 see no other way to escape pinching nedies sity alty than to go to with all our mig might ht and produce the things we need the most the lord blesses us with years of plenty against the time of need and in these timah of plenty it would be well for us to treasure up gra grain grata 1 in aid and other rich products of the earth to be righteous towards god is to quey obey jesus sal sai dIf dlf a man roan loveth lov loy th me in he will keepe rny iny words anomy Fath father irwill will love himy him and w e w ill lil come unto him and make our abode with him ile he that loveth me not ke keeneth ebeth not my sayings and theford the word which ye hear is not mine but the tb e fathers fath ers which sent me let us be truly obedient in the things we do know and then if we have a desire for the things we do not know the lord will perhaps give them to vs us A father feels more like giving to a child that has complied with his requests than to one that has not another thing we frequently ask for things that we nye have no business with let us be careful about this and faithfully practice upon that we have already received I 1 feel a peculiar loy joy joy and an unspeakable satisfaction myself in the things of god I 1 have desired a greater degree 0 of intelligence that I 1 mi might ht be more useful and of greater benefit in the ile kingdom of god I 1 do not know that I 1 have coveted anything in this world only to be more useful in building up the kingdom I 1 of christ in my day and generation may the lord help us to overcome evil with good to sustain the principles of righteousness and the authorities of the priesthood of god how hiow on the earth we would like to build a temple suppose I 1 we had one now are we prepared to enter iu into it my earnest desire is that we may bs be faithful and be found worthy to go into it when ihen it is built and receive the blessings of eti eternity eity pity but we will not be unless we progress in all the principles of eternal life As soon boon as we are worthy to go into the house of the lord and receive those blessings 0 we shall have a house rhe lord delights to pour riches of eternity upon his bis faithful children why does be he not do it more abundantly because we are not worthy to receive them then let us by our godly lives prove ourselves worthy of those blessings may nay the lord help us to accomplish all he requires of us in the name of jesus christ aanen |
