Show THE CULTURE OF COTTON that cotton can be grown successfully in the s bouthern part of the Terri territory fory below the I 1 rim of the basin has been abundantly demonstrated P rated by the experiments which have been made within the last few years the tle amount produced produce dp it is true has not been very large as there has not been any extraordinary efforts made to grow it extensively there bein being a no machinery in the country for manufacturing it into the various fabrics necessary for use consequently but few have raised more than they needed for the clothing of their own families and which has been manufactured into cloth and other necessary artl arif articles cles cies by hand when factories shall have been built and machinery macl maci nery for spinning weaving and manufacturing fac turing the raw material into such fabrics as the tte necessities of the people require shall have been provided and put in operation the ct culture liture of cotton will as an a matter of course receive more attention than it has thus far or will ivill until it can be manufactured at a cheaper rate than with the facilities that now exist greater breadths will then be planted and more skill called into requisition in order to lii tri increase crease the quantity and quality than heretofore thereby therein making its production inore lnore profitable to the grower and at lower prices than are now asked some have been and tet yet are akrep ol of the opinion n that there cannot be enough cotton grown in the territory to supply the inhabitants with the amount of fabrics made of that ma tenial that will be required while others who have made mada estimates are fully or oe the opinion that there will be no difficulty whatever with proper management and culture in producing it in sufficient quantities to supply any reasonable demand for such buch goods that may be created for years to come be that as it may there is no question but that amounts can be proda produced ed and it if not enough 0 for all necessary purposes lt it will go far towards to supplying 0 the market with cotton goods that tt should be grown as well as wool flix and hemp as extensively as possible to ta a matter of great importance and in which under existing circumstances all are or should be interested without material it is impossible by any human agency to manufacture or produce clot ciot clothing hing bing 0 of f any kiad klad IN not 0 t only the rat ral raising ising of cotton but the manufacture of it into yarn cloth and other necessary articles in common use is a matter of greater importance than bome some suppose or affect to believe the producing of the raw raly material can be accomplished without much mauch capital but the erection of nilla n illa and the importation or manufacture of the necessary machinery for fabricating purposes pur posos requires means as well as energy and perseverance but for that lre there thare is no want and if those who have it would invest it in the erection of cotton mills not dot such large establishments as have lave been built in the east but such as the nature and circumstances of the case require and such as will at the least expense and in tile tiie shortest time supply the immediate warts wants of the people res residing idin in thebe theba isolated mountain vales 4 f e some exertion hag has been made by proper exertions are made and the culture of cotton is not the least among the things that require their attention that staple article of modern commerce and se sc much in use can be grown we verily believe to a considerable extent in other locations in this territory than in washington county samples of cotton grown in this city this season fully belief that it can be produced in this valley successfully the staple though I 1 short abort is ia good and what little was planted has come to maturity not having been injured by frost |
