| Show THE NEW OFFICIAL OATH otil G S L CITY sept EDITOR av or DEs deseret ellet eilet NEWS dear delar SIR As many of 0 your numerous readers no doubt would like to know and tinder understand stand the oath of allegiance required by the government of the united states to each and every person employed in the civil se service r thereof as passed by congress at a special ee session salon gaion of the same entitled all ail ali an act requiring an oath of 0 allegiance and to sup ort the constitution of oe the united states to ue lort eort e administered to certain persons in the civil service bervice of the united states approved au august must bust ath 1861 12 for the b benefit of all au sui KUI li I 1 quote the ake material part of this act be it enacted etc that it shall be the duty of the heads of the different departments to cause to be administered to each and evely officer clerk or employee now in their respective spec tive departments or in any way connect ed therewith or who shall r rin in any way become connected therewith the following oath viz 1 I do solemnly swear or affirm as the case may be that I 1 will support protect and de fend the constitution institution and government of the united states against all enem enemies ies des whether domestic or foreign and that I 1 will wili bear true faith allegiance and loyalty to the same sama any ordinance resolution or ar law of any state convention or legislature to the contrary notwithstanding and further that I 1 do this with a full determination pledge and purpose 1 without any mental reservation or evasions evasion whatsoever and further that I 1 will well and faithfully perform all the duties may be required of me by law so help me god and that each and every such civil officer and empl empi employed employee oyed in the department at af repaid or in any way connected therewith in the service or employment of the united states who bhail shall refuse to take the oath or affirmation herein provided shall be immediately dismissed and discharged from such service or employment 22 yours etc W J arr ArP APPLEBY LEBY clerk of US sup sap court for U ter |
