Show mortality among amon sheep in box eld eid elder eider er CO county anty 1 by letter from alfred cordon esq of box elder county we are informed that at willard commonly known as north willow creek a fatal disease has made its appearance among the sheep and that out of a flock of gb GU had died in the course of one week I 1 the sheep were in good order and doing re mar kably well until about the of june when some of them commenced coughing and soon the whole flock were affected in tha that wyon the ad instant about noon they commenced dying a fine fat ones would stagger t pitch forward and expire in a few minutes those who witnessed the singular occurrence were of the opinion that it was the effect of some poisonous weed that the sheep ha ba eaten andon the course of the afternoon duct antidotes as were at hand band were applied with no favorable results about midnight they bled tire we whole flock but that seemingly 0 dm dw no go good ad and by four nex next t morning thirty two of them were dead and seven more died in the course of the day on the morning of the ath tha tho surviving t sheep did so violently but their nostrils were so stopped up they breath edwith the gea greatest test difficulty and their owners despaired of saving any rf 01 them diany many of the dead sheep were opened an examined thoroughly 9 bly to ascertain if possible I 1 the cause of the strange 0 mortality all seemed ito to be affected in the same way the small in te stines and bladders bein being inflamed and field with bloody water A va variety riely of names hav been given to the disease but there is much uncertainty as to the cause of it no one wb had bad witnessed it having ever seen any thin 0 o of the kind before up to the lub hith luh over one third of the flock had died and the disease seemed to be abating and hopes wera were entertained that most of those that were then alive would be saved the sheep had been scattered about and kept a few in a place seemed tobaie to have a bene facial effect tar salt charcoal sulphur gun powder and other remedies had been liberally applied the most unfortunate occurrence of all ac cording to the latest report is that six of the men who attended on the sheep and assisted ass istee in irk opening and examine them are very sick and black sore sores much inflamed have lave broke out on different of their bodies the appearance of such a novel and fata disease among the sheep at that place has created some excitement as well it might under the circumstances sheep in this terri tern tory have generally been healthy and but few fely have died of disease and they bave been the most profitable stocky stock raised in these moun bains the matter course be thoroughly h yin investigated by those who are edgag engaged in raising raisin sheep of whom there are maidy many as that business has attracted more attention within the tilee last two years than formerly and the number of those useful and profitable am ani mats mah has bas been of late greatly increased if a general sheep disease should spread through r the territory at this time it would certainly be a great calamity from the effect effects a of chit chiv would take several years to recover it is hoped that the people will not be subjected to such a scourge |
