Show Special to Bishops Returning. Servicemen . To Report In Sacrament Meeting THEY are coming home! These' prefer not to speak publicly and are the clays we have waited for, the days they have longed for too. They are coming back from the blistering sands of North Africa, from Italy, from all over. Europe, from the rock, from hundreds of the Pacific Islands, ...yes,, from. elLover...theworlL They are men of experience, poise, and wisdom. They have gathered here a little and there a little to make up the sum total, a man. Yes, our servicemen are coming home, but to what? Will they be accorded a welcome they will never forget or a welcome they will want to forget? In a very large measure, bishops, and only bishops, have the answer. Perhaps there will be a wel- come home social for them. ' There will be if bishops either do it or see that it is done. We welcome missionaries from the field in some appropriate manner. Why not similarly welcome these missionaries from the service? They ' too have been on missions, yes on ' missions for the Church for one cannot live the gospel and go unnoticed by his associates. In any . event let us see to it that the welcome from the ward and from every member in the ward is the one they have dreamed about and - . .waited . for.. REPOST IN SACK AMENT . MEETING -- It is suggested that the bishop in each ward provide every Latter-day Saint man and. woman, returning from the service, an opportunity to report in a sacrament meeting. If all of the time of the next few months is given over to them, a wealth of faith promoting experience and strong personal testimonies will come to the membership of the Church, - the like of which we have not had in a long time, if ever. Let tho members of the Church hear from therm. They are full of rich experiences which must not be ""lost to the Church. The bishop is cautioned in the . exercise of judgment in asking our servicemen and women to speak In a sacrament meeting to the effect that such a request be made in advance and then only with the consent of each person involved. They are not to be Some of them may . may remain away from services unless they are made to feel that will they only as they are willing, be called upon. " ' This is to be a Church-wid- e project. We want to hear from themrThey want to talk to us. The Lord will use them to edify and stimulate the saints if bishops will carefully plan to provide the opportunities. Do it now, bishops, before they move away from their wards, as many will be doing, and these wonderful opportunities are lost Bishops - -- Stake Chairmen Signing Standard Quorum Award INDIVIDUAL CERTIFICATE OF AWARD winners from Spanish Fork Fifth Ward, Palmyra Stake, and their leader Earl E. Morphy, celebrated their achievements bn an extended tour of interesting sights in Salt Lake City. Applications ever increasing number of ANapplications for the standard quorum award are being received at the Presiding Bishops office which have not been carefully checked and audited. We have been obliged to make more declinations this year than in several years combined. This could be avoided if bishops and atake chairmen would exercise more care in checking the records before submitting applications. . A bishop should not sign an application unless he is satisfied that, the record is figured accu-ratand that all of the minimum standards have been met Bishops signature is considered his personal certification that the quorum, to his knowledge, is eligible for the award. A stake chairman should carefully check the application to make certain that each question has been properly answered and that percentages are figured The Presiding Bishopric expects that when a stake chairman signs an application for the standard quorum award we consider his signature a certification of all figures and percentages reported. There are still a few instances when bishops and stake chairmen sign and send in' applications which obviously are below the ' (Continued on Page Eight) Aaronic Priesthood Excommunicated From the Church Who Should Attend Social s POTTS, VERNON excommuni- in.
